Not heard such good things about Shaun Palmer`s game.
e.g. the comment at the bottom of SSX Tricky preview PSM2:
"You`ll love it unless you`re Shaun Palmer"
Tricky is the better game, but its less realistic perhaps, tending to a more arcade style (for example, jumping to ridiculous heights, unstrapping yourself from your board and performing insane aerial tricks).

Speed and traffic... you`ll love Burnout then.
Burnout is good, but earlier you mentioned a dislike for arcade games, which is essentially what Burnout is about. Something like GT3 is far better if you like the more realistic stuff.
On the PS2 it does slow down a tiny bit and its still to short.
