In the upwire recently an article was written that said the president of Capcom USA (Bill Gardner) said "If Nintendo cannot get its numbers up, particularly in Japan, we may need to reconsider keeping Resident Evil exclusive to Gamecube."
--

This has raised question marks all over the internet into what Capcom may be "considering", Well let me tell you why the series isn't shifting from the gamecube!! Resident Evil is made by Capcom JP and they have the rights where, when and how their game is released. CAPCOM USA may modify it but can only distribute the finished product (from Shinji Mikami’s Team) Bill Gardner is head of Capcom USA not Japan!!!!!!!

Still not convinced??

“Everyone must be surprised because the Biohazard series is now on the GameCube, but I have a clear and strong opinion about being able to enjoy all of the Biohazard games on one system. Therefore the series will be GameCube exclusive. From now on, games aren't limited to graphics only -- a balance must be reached between fun gameplay and graphic enjoyment. I feel if it isn't like this, the media itself will be endangered. Among game systems focused on graphics, we're aiming to show Nintendo's philosophy of 'fun games'.”- “Because we don't want to force our users to have to buy many systems to play the Biohazard games, we've decided to focus on one console: GameCube.”

He prefers the gamecube to any other system!!!!!

(Because of What Capcom USA openly announced Shinji Mikami tried to clear up the confusion)

"A rumor that Biohazard (Overseas name: Resident Evil) may be supplied to platforms other than Nintendo GameCube has started on overseas web sites recently. This has no basis and is not true at all. Biohazard, Biohazard 0, Biohazard 2, Biohazard 3 - Last Escape, Biohazard Code :Veronica Complete and Biohazard 4 are due to be put on the market for Nintendo GameCube exclusively as we announced on September 13th, last year. Our plans have not changed.

Resident Evil may return to the PS2 or another console because of unknown future events (like Sega ceasing production of the dreamcast) but after Survivor 2 I wouldn’t expect any games being released on anything BUT the Nintendo gamecube for at least this generation of consoles. I'm getting rather sick of buying consoles for the series and hope they stick to the Gamecube!!! (which they are)

So they move a couple of the zombies... joy, and modify a couple of the puzzles... I can't contain myself... And they've split the game onto 2 discs.. yipee!!

I do understand the previos point made that if you javen't played the originals, then this is going to be one hell of an experience for first timers... but for those of us who have played the entire RE series (on various formats) this version offeres no more of a challenge than the original PS version in 1996.

People moan on here about sequals and one or two have really moaned about MGS2 and it's over hype (though if you have been following the story since the first instalment on the MSX then this is definately worth it!), but please, what makes this any better?

When it comes down to the nitty gritty, this is a remake of a PS classic by a firm who saw how successful this series made the PS and who intends to try and repeat this success with the GCN by selling an old game with some heavy plastic surgery.

No doubt when it arrives, it'll get HUGE reviews and scores, and for those Ninty's who have never seen or played the RE series, then this will be a killer app for them, but for those who have previously played these titles, it's not going to be that exciting...

I will reserve my final comments when i finally get my hands on the US copy, and I really do hope it's as terrifying as the original PS incarnation, but Part of me says that just because Capcom have exstensively tarted up the pre rendered back drops and pushed all of the polys into the chracters, this game isn't going to offer that much in the way of "New"...

I'm sure Capcam said they wanted to make it a different gameplay experience for those that had originally played it. So zombies in different locations, different puzzles etc.

Even I admit the series could have been better but the remake of the original looks stunning and I can't see Capcom releasing straight PS1 ports after that especially at £40 a piece.

Resident Evil zero looks pretty good and Resident Evil 4 is going to be something really special, could be the end of the series so the gamecube games aren't really just things we've seen before with better presentation.

I haven't played the games before. Except a little on the one that came out on the N64, Resident Evil 2 was it?

I might get the games. Depends on reviews and if I've got the cash.

Eternal Darkness, on the other hand, looks very appealing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the RE series, but come on... It was made a classic on the Playstation in 1996 and at the time, it was new and a truly awesome game and sold in bucket loads (as well as selling bucket loads of PS2's)...

But how many people in their right mind are going to shell out for a console and the game that the have:

A) Played RE before and
B)There is no significant difference between this one and the original PSOne version (apart from the graphics)

Now if it was a version of RE I had never played before, then I probably would be getting excited and rushing to pre order my GCN but why would I want to play a dated game that's just had a face lift? No change in gameplay or story line, and for anyone who's played it before, it'll all be over in under 3 hours as everyone will already know what to do and "Oh look, a zombie round that corner"!!

I'm interested in RE0 and RE4, but I still don't see the point in buying remakes of the other 3 games that 90% of people have already played to death on another console? Are people really that simple that all they want is graphics? I admit, they look awesome, but I don't by games on the basis on how nice they look, especially if they are 90% pre rendered... Doesn't say much for the GCN does it?

So, basically you're saying that the GC has, at the mo, got 2 exclusive games (0 and 4), 1 that is better than the original (1), and a load of others that everyone already has

If they were going to make some major changes, then I may have been interested, but it's just eye candy to sell the machine!!

So what if Capcom prefer the GCN, they have been quite vocal about finding the PS2 architecture hard work to develop with, but then they release DMC and Onimusha?

It'll sell the GCN by the bucket... But re-making old games seems a bit odd? It's almost as bad a creating sequals!!
