Pokemon Stadium 2 used pretty much the same engine as the first one. All the Pokémon are in great 3D and the battles, although the same as the first one are great to watch and the graphics just shine through.
The gameplay has been improved as there are now #251 Pokémon to choose from. The mini-games, although quite 'kiddie' now total 12 and they are just as graphically sound as the battles and plus Nintendo have incorporated the 'C' buttons to add to the multiplayer experience. The great news about the battles is that you can transfer any of your Pokémon from Red, Yellow, Blue, Silver or Gold to the gamepak through the Transfer Pak, and even if you don't have a Gameboy you can play the main Pokémon gameboy game through the Transfer Pak. There are rental Pokémon but see if you can get your own, they are much better and have a higher HP than the rentals. There is a Pokémon Academy where you can learn all the tricks and tactics to becoming a Pokémon master...simple if you know how! There are also 21 gym leaders to carve through in the gym leader castle. These, as in the first one get progressively harder which is good news for older Pokémon fans. But even if you are still worried about the length of the game don't be, you have got loads of Pokémon to master, mini-games that will keep you occupied until we get the Gamecube and graphics that will fulfil the Pokémon experience to the top.
The sound of the game is great, not that you notice it much, as you are over-whelmed at the site of your Pokémon in super 3D, as when your Pokéball bounces and your Pokémon emerges you have superb accompanying sound which adds to the suspense of 'The heated battle'.
The graphics although good, are similar to the first one, and maybe to make sure the game is released Nintendo used the old engine and maybe tweaked a couple of things here and there. But it is better than the first one if only by a whisper.
Overall it looks like it could continue the great run of Pokémon games that we have seen on the Nintendo platforms. It is quite similar to the first one, but with more of everything at a better quality any great Pokémon fan can't complain. Great for fans of all ages, and a good title to complete your collection with.
The Game
...but I haven't tried that cheat for ages cos my Pokemon, without cheating, are really strong!
