The continued success of the Playstation 2s older brother has been contributed to by the retailers cooperation in selling the games at affordable prices, in comparison to the £45 release prices for games on the GameCube and X-box, and even up to £70 on Nintendo's games on older systems! Paying no more than £25 for a new game on the Playstation (unless you were stupid enough to shop at Game), you could and still can buy many top games, Fifa 2003 and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets being but two.
So, logically, with deals being very good on Playstations and the newish smaller version named the PSOne being much more portable and extending the lease of life given to the Playstation, many parents have bought a version of the original Playstation for their children for Christmas. After all, with the unspoken promise of many games for a long time yet, and cheap prices on the games and accessories, the Playstation One seems the perfect present for a child, no?
Indeed, no.
The reason being, Sony are rumoured to be dropping a dump on the heads of parents who bought their children the Playstation One this festive season by announcing that production of the Playstation is to come to an end.
What does this mean?
Well, for Sony, it means they can increase the amount of warehouse and factory space for Playstation 2s, increase efforts into the design and development of the tentatively titled 'Playstation 3'.
However, for the consumer, it means that they will have to resort to buying grubby controllers, scratched discs and torn manuals all contained in little or no packaging from retailers lucky enough to have such 'quality' in store. If the gamers of the world were all as selfish as me, have our way, the stores wouldn't have any pre-owned games as everyone would keep what they've got and collect games. However, without people trading in their games at local retailers, you wouldn't see an increase of hardcore gamers, or as I call them bounty hunters, with their long leather jackets, brown cord' trousers and greeny-gray shirts as well as their shoulder-length, greasy hair and unshaven faces, entering every store in their locality every day looking, hunting and gathering games in their rarity. This will soon happen to Playstation games as it already does Game Boy Original, Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Master System and Super Nintendo games! The fate of the name Playstation is inevitable, the console's best quality discs will be snapped up by loners in leather!
If a store advisor points you in the direction of the PSOne, kick him in the nutty regions. If someone says the games are going cheap, tell the the facts, and they will soon see why. If you really hate someone, tell them to buy a Playstation!
The Playstation is dead! Finito! Kablammied! In the morgue! If you want to play Playstation games, get a Playstation 2!
On the other hand, think of the Dreamcast gamers, who despite being without new games for more than enough months to be considered torture, have held their heads high, defended the defenseless and have continued to enjoy the console, despite peoples ridicule. At the end of the day, every console stops production eventually. It is an inevitable fact. But remember, you paid a lot of money for you console and your games, and just because they aren't the most popular anymore, doesn't mean they are crap. Play your Playstation games, enjoy them, buy more whilst you still can, and sit in wait of the very Merry Christmas announcement that Sony will be giving to the parents of the kids of the world very soon.

Don't believe me?
Wait and see.
