Well Ant, we both reached this milestone today!!!!
I feel old, I didn't really expect to still be using this place 3 years on. I expected GADs to be removed as a clever marketing ploy, the site to be over whelmed by spam, and then eventually the forums get shut leaving only the webpage. But They some how managed to drag it through! I have a measily tally of GADs but have mainly just used this place for having a laugh.
My highlights have probably been, my GADs, The jokes, my banning (wasn't to funny then), and just generally having a laugh. Thanks to all the people who have been here from the start or near it. Personally i think we need to get SR to pester back some of the people who have left. There are quite a lot really (fogmaster and soupdragon were probably two of the best from the start).
The forums have had a bit of an over haul really, Some will remember them as the old pages where all the topics just sprawled down the page, for everything and there were about 10 posts a day (but they were nearly all worth reading). My first GAD win has disappeared, tragically. It was THREE lines long!!!! A rant at Playstation owners for dissing perfect dark! but the games forums died and that has disappeared! Wouldn't mind seeing it while i'm feeling nostalgic if its hiding on some old sr archive.
I left for a while when the forums changed cos of exams and i didn't actually like the new look, but then i came back 3 months later and there were all these funny ratings and we had a posse of notables and i found i had a funny purple name! Anyway as far as i am concerned the forums are still a good place to be even with some of the spam we've been getting. Anyway, before this starts to sound like my autobiography i think i'll stop!
Congrats to Ant as well! Been a top poster as long as i've been here, remeber his first GAD took him ages to win then they really started to flow! Any way i am sure he'll probably go on nostalgically too but well done mate!
(for anyone observant enough to have spotted that my account says 800 days not 1000, my account broke and SR made me a new one with my old post count, so i have aged gracefully and lost a fifth of my life!lol, but i signed up the same day as Ant, and there are posts in the archives to prove it!) Very good post.
It is interesting to see how the forums have changed from a 'real' regulars point of view. Was an enjoyable read, and maybe one day i will be able to look back and realise how different the forums are, and appreciate how much better it was, such a long time ago. Anyway congratulations to you and Ant. Keep up the good posts, as experience is valuable in a newbie society.
