1) Shigeru Miyamoto: After coming to Ninty as an artist, Shigsy suddenly became famous, or should that be infamous, when game took off. He made Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong, designed the first platformers and is still int he indiustry making groundbreaking games- Mario 64 introduced real 3D gameplay for the first time.
2) Yugi Naka: When the SNES was selling more than every other console put together (there were at least half a dozen at the time), Sega needed to do something. So, right then, Naka-san came up with the comlete opposite of Ninty's fat, slow, red plumber- Mario. He made a slick, fast, cool, blue hedgehog named Sonic! Oh, and NiGHTS! on the Saturn is, in my eyes, the most original game ever. Pure phantasy gameplay... genius. Fave game ever is that!
3) Yu Suzuki: The man of many talents. On the one hand he is pushing the boundries in 3D fighters with the Virtua Fighter series. On the other he is an expert at making racing games- Ferrari 355, and loads more that I can't remember (DOH!). Oh, and now he's made Shenmue!

On teletext and in forums like this, there are people that go on forever about how great a game will be because "Shigsy" is working on it. PLEASE SHUT UP! Games have always been, and always be a matter of taste, and just one person cannot make the difference between an average game and a classic. A classic shows originality, and after a famous games designer makes one great epic of a game, they always cash in on it, but instead of taking 18-24 months to produce it takes 3 or 4 years.
Following genres however is possible, and also gives players a more diverse selection of games, as well as features and innovative ideas that they may not come across if they followed one designer.
I'm not saying that games designers are like football teams, in the fact that they always do the same things, however in all designers games you will find consistencies.
Games designers don't really want to create really original, innovative games. Peter Molyneux made over £10 million from Black and white, and doubt doubt he'll cash in on that. Miyamoto is cashing in on Shenmue by releasing a sequel o that. Sequels are fine as long as there is significant new changes and features to justify another £40-£50 purchase. At least PC owners can just purchase/download expansions.
Just because games designers are in the forefront of the gaming industry doesn't mean that they won't just churn out similar sequels to save time and make money
2) Hideo Kojima - Metal Gear Solid practically created a whole new genre - the stealth-based game (prepares for waves of angered repliers to this). Probably the only game designer who is capable of making a film out of a game (not literally).
3) The guy that made Final Fantasy VII - rather appallingly, I can't remember his name. It'll come to me when I play this game later!
As you can see, my decisions are purely based on the games created by these people, as they should be. :)
An absolute genuis on all acounts, rarely faultering(If at all).
Zelda 64 still has yet to be beaten in my opinion (And many others)
His ideas are noted by designers and developers the world over. When do we hear Miyamoto divulging everything of what he has planned, he is a very secretive man and who can blame him for that.
Plus only for him many of the PS2 owners including myself wouldn't have Jak and Daxter about, considering every morsel of idea from Mario and Zelda has been stuffed into it with no where near bettering the games that the ideas are copeyed from.
And Secondly- Yu Suzuki. Without him we wouldn't have Shenmue 1+2- full stop.
And I dont have a third!.
:0)
Seriously though, surely that game would be pretty good (understatement)
When do you think they'll announce the wedding? :-D
I know Miyamoto oversees quite a few titles at anyone time, but how much input do they really put in? Something that's always interested me.
Ah well, as for my favourite designer. I don't know to be honest, on the one hand I admire the works of Yuji Naka and Sonic Team for Phantasy Star Online, Nights, Samba etc. And on the other Miyamoto for Mario, Zelda etc.
I'm gonna sit on the fence for this one ;)
