Two weeks ago my brother's PS2 had problems with the CD drawer/driver or something, bascially the CD wouldn't spin up when inserted so it was not possible to play any games/cd's etc.
By coincidence the 12 month guarantee ran out three weeks ago (isn't that just typical).
After a few calls Sony have agreed to deliver a new one next Tues and collect the old one at the same time.
So well done Sony, my only cost was a few minutes on the phone. Customer Service after the warranty period does exist.

The good thing with Sony is they don't see a point of arguing with the customer.
You say somethings wrong, they sort it out as soon as possible and with as little hassle to the customer as possible.

I wonder if the Xbox customer service will be as good.

My brother took it back to good old SPECIAL RESERVE and was told their warranty was only for THREE DAYS, after that you have to take it up with the Manufacturer, so although Sony's customer service is good, SR's leaves something to be desired !

Actually, Ginger, Sony HAVE to do this under the law.

The "Sales of Goods Act" says that ANY good sold should be suitable for the use they were intended. This included working properly, and is IRRESPECTIVE of the warranty period. (For this reason, buying extensions on the warranty are a waste of time.)

Anyway, if you buy a PS2, you'd expect that it'd last more than 12 months without getting a fault. In fact, I'd say it should last about 3 years. So, if anything happens to it, you can take it back to the shop you bought it from, quote the "sales of goods act". Usually though, they'll tell you to contact head office. So, you send head office a letter, quoting the sales of goods act, and MAKE SURE to say that you will pursue the cost of replacing/repairing the goods in the small claims court if they will not replace the product.

Since almost every small claims court case like this wins, the company will almost certainly replace the good. Only problem is that it'll take a couple of weeks from sending the letter!

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.

Nothing but admiration. I have been complimented on the church site that I manage through you and everybody thinks I am an IT genius. Your support is unquestionably outstanding.
