Downloaded some old-school rock today and listening to it now.

Metallica "For Whom The Bell Tolls" "Fade To Black" "Leper Messiah"
These boys used to rock.
But not anymore, they're soft-rock poodle nancy-boys that wear make-up.
Compare "take a look to the sky just before you die,it's the last time you will" to "Gimme fuel gimme fire gimm that which I desire...oooh-yeah"
Rubbish.
"For Whom" even starts with a massive bell.
You don't get much more rock than that.

And Prong "Snap your fingers"
Classic rock. Tommy Prong with the bass from hell and no frills attitude.

Led Zeppelin. "Immigrant Song"
Nonsense lyrics "Aaaaaaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa...I come from the land of ice and snow..."
But Bonham, Plant and Page make it godlike.

And I also downloaded some girly rock for my girl.
Nickleback "This is how you remind me"
A god-awful poncy rock song about feelings and being reminded of "what I really am...it's not like you to say sorry..."

Dammit, rock isn't about apologising to your woman for being insensitive.
It's about being the 4 Horsemen of The Apocalypse and about fighting animals and rocking out.
Not "Oh baby I'm so sorry, I've been a fool, ooooooohhh yeah"
That's for girls, leave that to the dirty moany birds like Morrisette and Amos and Dido.

Leave ROCK to blokes with hairy chests and sneers and massive guitars with flames on.
Not whiny songs about how sad you are your woman left.
No.
That is not rock.
Neither is wearing shorts and shouting your band name over and over whilst a DJ scratches and leaps about trying to make two record decks look hard.

Jesus rock is in a sorry state.
All you nu-metal punks, do me a favour.
Stop skateboarding for 2 minutes, and anyone else interested in rock, and go download the following songs.
Just do it, this is what rock is about:

Pantera "Walk"
Metallica "For Whom The Bell Tolls"
Sepultura "Chaos A.D"
Suicidal Tendencies "Can't Bring Me Down"
Helmet "Meantime"

Just get any or all of those song and sit and listen to them.
Do you not feel rock pulsing in your heart and head?
Do you not urge to play a massive black guitar or numerous shiny drums wearing a headband and pulling rock grimace faces?
Exactly.

No go download Bon Jovi and Limp Bizkit.
Do you not want to fix your hair and wear a dress?
Thought so.

Rock is about rocking the rock.
Not being apologetic or "I'm so great, my band is number one beeyatch"
No.
Rock is 4-6 blokes in black, shouting and wrestling pure metal into musical form and standing with their legs really wide-apart and shouting "1-2-3-4".

I thought Lita Ford was a bit ropey. And that duet she did with Ozzy.... (shudders).

Girlschool had their moments. 'Hit and Run' is a good NWOBHM album.

Yes we do.

Women in rock do not belong.
Unless your name is Lita Ford or Doro Pesche.
Or L7.

That was close, I nearly lost the power to rock. Damn, must go and find some Dio and plug myself in intravenously.

We rock......

You can come out of hiding now.

Prong - what a fantastic band they were. If you haven't heard it, get hold of 'Freezer Burn' from their debut album. Possibly the best combination of punk and metal I've heard, with one of the great riffs.

I was listening to Tad the other day, and forgotten how good they were. 'Jack Pepsi' a song about two guys falling through ice is a classic.

Supersuckers are good for rock lyrics - 'The Evil Powers of Rock n Roll', 'I Want the Drugs', they even have a song called 'Fisticuffs' ;-). Fu Manchu have classic metal titles - 'Hell on Wheels', 'Evil Eye', 'Breathing Fire', 'The Falcon has Landed'.

When you have to rock, you just have to rock.

There's a difference between rock and metal, I think. I can't stand metal, but I like groups like Foo Fighters, Lifehouse, Idlewild, Matchbox 20, Vandals and so on, who would be classed as rock and not metal.
But,if this is a dig at nu-metal idiots, then I'm all for that.
