Final Fantasy have a great edge here, their orchestration and mood setting melodies are undoubtedly great, and make the game a lot more absorbing.

Roll Cage also has a kickin' soundtrack (Fat Boy Slim et al), but the ultimate for me is flying down the antigrav track in your Feistar racer on WipeOut with the speakers turned ALL the way up, that game you can really get into.

Any other gaming soundtracks that can do this?

Kickin' Soundtracks eh? Quake 2, Crusader: No Remorse and of course Crusader: No Regret... Lot's of games, many of which i can't think of!
Diablo has a brilliant soundtrack (though it's not exactly "Kickin'") it creates superb atmosphere and Diablo 2 follows that up (but they coulda made it better in my opinion).
Of course i don't recommend kicking any part of your games, consoles or computers... but it does relieve the stress...

Wait until Zelda on the Gamecube. Nintendo will be morons to leave out the wonderful Triforce them from the title again!

I think if Zelda on the SNES was in CD quality music instead of the midi style system then it would be an excellent soundtrack! I for some reason liked the music from the cartoon!

I think game developers should realise that they are game developers, not musical composers. Often, when developers make their own music, is can ruin a game rather than improve it. They should leave it to the experts (unless they have some good in-house composers, such as Rare and Square)

However, if they use popular music, at least it should tie in with the game. Whereas the WipEout series uses dance tracks brilliantly to set the mood, EA Sports will get any old chart track, just for the sake of it, as long as it's a good song (usually - Robbie Williams fails to fall in either 'football-related' or 'good'!)

Perhaps if EA Sports spent more money developing the game than buying musical tracks, their game's playability would be better than ISS.

Driver has some quite funky and soulfull sounds too, but I wouldn't rate that as kicking, more as appropriate really, you'd think Huggy Bear was in the back seat or something.

Jet Force Gemini. God like music, completely entralling, especially some of the spaceship levels.
Any Star Wars game of course, I will return with more.
