The speculation has ended. We can now reveal that on Monday, January 28, Nintendo will announce the release date for Gamecube as May 3, 2002 at 249 Euros, which is a staggering £150 - £50 less than PS2 and half the price of Microsoft's Xbox console. Earlier today, we received rock solid information of the details set to be included in the speech by David Gosen, MD of Nintendo Europe, due to be broadcast at 9am, Monday, January 28 on www.nintendogamecube-europe.com. In the seven-and-a-half-minute speech, Gosen reveals full launch details including titles, pricing and availability. Crucially, crushing rumours of limited units, Gosen will confirm there will be one million units available across the continent at launch.
Gosen will state that Nintendo expects more than 20 software titles to be available from launch day, which is the largest ever line-up of software ever for a console launch. By the summer there will be almost 50 titles available for Gamecube.
Titles available on launch day include Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race, FIFA, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Batman, Crazy Taxi, Burnout, Sonic 2 and Star Wars: Rogue Leader. Shortly after launch, Europe will see Resident Evil, Super Smash Bros. Melee (May 24), and Pikmin (June 14) Allow us a moment to squeal like little girls. Waaaaaaaaaah!
Importantly, Gosen will emphasise that Gamecube is neither aimed at kids, teens, nor adults - it is a machine that is for anyone who enjoys the entertainment yielded by interactive gaming. It is about attitude, not image, he will assert.
Most notable of all is the price: £150 (249 Euros) means you can buy two Gamecubes for the price of an Xbox, and, crucially, it undercuts PS2 by £50. Nintendo may have given Microsoft a two month lead, but with an irresistible price point, expansive launch line-up and confirmed date of May 3, Microsoft and Sony better watch their backs - Gamecube's about to rock Europe.

Doesn't matter all that much, I suppose. Could be a crucial blow for Nintendo, releasing it quite late... but we'll see.

so its £150 and i have seen pictures of it in silver what happened? i have a really old NOM magazine of when it was first announced and it had a picture of all the different colours but if i get one it would ahve to be a silver colour
Also on Gamespot they have confirmed the date as 3rd of May at £150!!! Looks like its official WOO HOOOO!!!
I'm glad that we finally have a definitive date set for the release of the Gamecube and it looks like a bargain! I'm a bit peeved that some titles from other consoles are on there, but at least there are quite a few exclusives to look foward to.

Launch the console in May when the fuss over the Xbox has died down a little. Watch the hype for Episode 2 build up, and use Rogue Leader to draw attention to the Gamecube.
The World Cup kicks off at the end of the May, and the Gamecube has FIFA ready for it.
The Resident Evil movie comes out in June or July, and guess what? So will the first RE game for Gamecube.
Looks like Nintendo are going to let others market their product for them!
Actually, I'm a bit disappointed by the announcement, as so far there's no word on the price of the games, and I would have liked to have seen a full release list.
Maybe it will go up on the site on Monday.
Oh, and did I not say Nintendo of Europe wouldn't be able to get to Monday without it being leaked?
May will be cool, I'm taking a short holiday by the coast, the Gamecube's released, and the World Cup kicks off!
Lot's of time off for me in June, to watch footy in the mornings, and play games in the afternoon.
Plus I don't have any major bills to pay in May either, except renewing Car Insurance, but that has to go on the credit card anyway!

Nintendo may have just dealt a killer blow... to them selves. They keep true Nintendo fans hanging on but what happens to the neutral fans!

3rd May?? Disappointing, me thinks. Around a month after the X-Box has been launched as well.
