With my new computer I got a GeForce 2 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein plays like a dream on it! Question, how old is a GeForce 2? Is it any good? And when will I need to upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

In Guerrlia Warfare, it's amazing when an arm flies past at high speed!

I remember those days

I remember how amazed I was when I got my Voodoo 2 all those years ago, and was finally able to play games the way they were intended to be played.

3d cards are pretty much extinct nowadays. In today's world, you usually buy a video card, with features 2d and 2d acceleration.
In the days of the Voodoo and Voodoo2, you had a seperate 2d card and then the 3d card (the voodoo) would come with a special connector to connect it to the 2d card!

Who remembers 3D games before 3D cards!

Quake!
Chasm!
Jedi Knight (didn't need one)

Ah, happy memories

Running UT under Linux with OpenGL 3D accelaration makes it look so much better without. That's basically what 3D cards do - 3D stuff.

It's used for gaming accelleration, to make them look smoother and run better etc. I don't really know the minor details of it, but I think they use Direct 3D Rendering and Glide Wrapping to make it look smoother and give it an overall sharper finish. I can't wait until my new computer comes in next week, then I'll be able to play my favourite games with some helacious horsepower! :D
