By programming the character and spending many sleepless nights over a PC trying to improve him.

3) Who are you gaming heroes?
Sonic the Hedgehog, Snake (as in Solid Snake and not the Nokia version), SquareSoft, Konami, Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, Hideo Kojima.
4) What is special about them?
Sonic was my first Hedgehog (not in the biblical sense), and the only blue hedgehog in the world with attitude as opposed to the usual flattitude on the M1.
Snake was the first gaming character (to my knowledge) that allowed you to sneak up behind someone and either choke them into unconsciousness or break their necks with a quick snap. Just HOW COOL IS THAT??
SquareSoft have brought new levels to character depth that was unheard off a decade ago. They've single handedly brought life to a flagging RPG market in Europe, which for me being an RPG gamer is a God send.
Konami make some of the most 'fun' games around, their RPGs are out of this world in terms of new ideas and story telling, and go figure, a Japanese company that understands how football should really be played? True gamers, ever one of them.
Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone did the Fighting Fantasy series of books, the ones where you rolled a dice and kept track of your stats with a pencil. The most innovative idea in books since paper was invented.
Hideo Kojima really knows how to put emotions across in games, possibly the best director out there. Anyone who's seen the ZOE 2 video in this month's OPSM2 will get what I mean.
5) Do they have anything you would describe as flaws?
Sonic is dated, SquareSoft didn't include turn-based combat in their joint game with Disney (Kingdom Hearts), Konami have made some games in the past that really sucked, but then they cover a whole host of genres, Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone stopped writing the Fighting Fantasy series and went onto other things, Hideo Kojima looks weird. Snake is perfect.
6) How could they be improved?
Sonic could get a whole new lease of life appearing in other games in a cameo role, perhaps they could even get Bob Hoskins to play the part in a full length feature movie. But then again, let sleeping dogs lie, Sonic was a hero of the past and maybe that's where he should be consigned, the 'retro-gaming bin'.
SquareSoft could get faster translators working for them when doing conversions from NTSC to PAL, a year is too long to wait for their games.
Same goes for Konami with their RPGs; they seem more reluctant than most publishers to release some of their best works in Europe, we miss out on a lot because of that.
They could bring out a new edition of the Fighting Fantasy books geared at today's modern youth (and me) with perhaps compendium editions with colour pictures this time instead of black and white.
Hideo Kojima could listen more to feedback from time to time whilst games are in development rather than trying to surprise people. (Raiden didn't go down that well, did he?).
Snake can't be improved.
7) Describe your ultimate gaming hero (not an existing hero)
Solid Snake with bullet-time skills, Lara Croft with Solid Snake's skills, or a female Sonic with Lara's assets.

He doesn't have a lightsaber

3) Who are your gaming heroes?
Dizzy the Egg.
4) What is special about them?
He can carry up to three things at a time. Unless he's in the first one.
5) Do they have anything you would describe as flaws?
He's an egg. That's generally one large flaw. And he can't breath underwater without a snorkel. Somehow.
6) How could they be improved?
He could be bought back. But not redesigned to be cool, and for GODS SAKE don't let him speak. He was eggsellent ahaahhaah the way he was. Put his greatest adventures on Gameboy, great big collection of Dizzy's. I'd buy it.
7) Describe your ultimate gaming hero (not an existing hero)
He needs to be the king of cheese [not the dairy product, the term for corny stuff, not beef] or some kinda bloke that doesn't speak or do anything but shake his arms up and down and jump in somersults.
