I walked into a random game shop today. Do you know what I saw? An X-box. Yep I saw an X-box, you know that evil mountain sized Microsoft piece of crap… the same evil mountain sized Microsoft piece of crap that I want to badly. But what was special about this X-box… is that this X-box was talking to me.

It was telling me, ‘buy me Chris, you know you want to Chris, buy me!” It has been for a while now, although never literally. It is truly a conspiracy led by Mr. Gates co-founder of Microsoft in order to indoctrinate one of the world’s largest Nintendo fans (namely me) into ‘selling out’. It isn’t easy you know, despite being such a stead-fast one man Nintendo warrior in which Nintendo can do no wrong, Microsoft have to attack key points. It has to beg a fundamental question, how do you get a massive Nintendo fan into supporting a rival console? Sony overpowered my previously unmovable brother, but I have a stronger will and Sony have never come close to toppling me, how could Microsoft do it? It happens to be easy for them, as they have money.

It all began with the failure of the Dreamcast as I bought one. This wasn’t evidence of me leaving my Nintendofied roots it was down to the fact that SEGA were now developing games for the Gamecube and I fancied a taste of what was to come. And so naturally I grew a startling love for a few games on the Dreamcast, namely two games. The first of these games was Dead or Alive 2, probably the greatest beat ‘em up I ever played and the other was the criminally underrated Jet Set Radio. See what Microsoft did here? Of all the games to launch the console with launch it with the only non-Nintendo games that I love so dearly. Cunning American Tycoon. What better way to lure me over… and although it made me glance over in that direction it didn’t work, there was one fundamental flaw… the price.

Too expensive Microsoft and you are hardly going to sway me from my favourite home system with a few games. Well the price drop to £200 had me looking again, this time I noticed Halo. As tempted as I was to get Halo I chose against it promptly, there is no need for that… I’ll wait till Perfect Dark 0 that will be much better…

I hate Irony.

So Microsoft does it again and this time they are really piling on the pressure to poor old me. For me Rare were an intricate part of Nintendo, and although life would still be rosy it wouldn’t quiet be the same without them. Seeing Conker, star of one of my favourite games ever, chop up the Microsoft logo as it once did to the N64’s was a tear jerking moment for me. And of course seeing those rather clever new Perfect Dark images too proved to me Rare still had that magic. Maybe I should…

No I must hold fast, £200 is still far too much, I cannot afford to support two consoles either. Price drop to £160… ok tempted once again heavily. I researched prices around the web and found SR’s deal with Dead or Alive 3 for £165 highly appealing; I was trying to raise the cash before I decided to throw all my efforts into Nintendo… I must resist. And then the killing blow came, not only would I get the X-box but I would get two free games with it, one being the single game I want more than anything… Jet Set Radio: Future.

Why do your torment me young box?

And as my temptation grows I hold out, looking deeper at the future of the Gamecube, resisting the urge to buy this games console no matter how much it talks to me. I fear this maybe a test of loyalty on behalf of Nintendo that fear keeps me sane. I have my doubts nonetheless as Nintendo are helping me. Firstly by releasing so much in March that the chances of me ever affording an X-box is slim to none. Nintendo also sent down two guiding angels to lure me along the right path with my Mother saying: “You don’t need another games console” and my Girlfriend pleading “spend less money on those games”… fat chance. What next? Will Microsoft buy Capcom in an attempt to finally crush my desire to stand by Nintendo?

And then the X-box said: “Did you say you hated Irony?”

I'm afraid I'm going to tempt you little bit more :-)

JSRF is bigger & better than the original, although I must say that I still prefer the method of spraying the graffiti on the DC JSR - JSRF has a one-touch spray method using the right trigger which is quicker and easier but not as addictive [in my opinion].

The story mode [on JSRF] is bigger and more varied with larger game areas and more of them.

Then there's the "street challenges" where you go back into all the areas and have to complete specific tasks like achieve a certain amount of trick points, find hidden graffiti souls, solve riddles, etc

Then there's the time trials and the 2-player mode.... Basically, if you're a JSR fan, then JSRF is a work of genius.

But having said that, I wouldn't buy a console you don't really want for one or two games.... and you never know, it might be released on the GameCube as it doesn't have the "only on Xbox" stamp on the box, whereas Panzer Dragoon Orta does - both SEGA games of course.

But then there's the forthcoming Rare games - Kameo looks nice....

If I had the money (and didn't want to spend it on a GBASP), I'd get an XBOX. Halo, XBOX Live, Halo 2, Phantasy Star Online, etc.

I really don't get it either - It's a PS2 with PC games

(Waits for 100's of X-Boxers to argue with him)

JSr doesn't really drag me in.

Maybe when Rare get something out, but after Star Fox Adventures I'm not exactly dying to play their next game.

I guess it's just that the Xbox has a wealth of FPS games, Halo and the like, and they just don't do it for me.

Hell, I even thought that Timesplitters 2 was a bit naff.
