Apu has eight children, they were given birh to by Mandula: they then gave birth to the saying "we have a love-eight relationship". When they were born, they were made famous because of them being the only octuplets in Springfield, subsequently, the appeared in circus-type shows, and were given free prams, food, clothes etc. All of it was taken away when a couple from Shelbyville had 9 babies. The couple from Shelbyville made a better sound bite for the television when they said "we're on cloud nine"
