Personally, I'm not getting to excited about the promise of an upcoming annoucement on February 5th - yet.

Now, I know people are touting the imminent release of the Gamecube in Europe "a few weeks" after this date, but is a few weeks really enough time to prepare the shops, advertising and marketing for an early March release? I don't think so. I know Nintendo would like to steal the X-Box's thunder, but I would of thought that UK stores would have been made aware of the date before now if it will be released so soon.

Still - here's hoping.

I'm not really all that excited about the launch date being announced, as I won't get one till the summer. But I want it to be soon, so that I know there will be GameCubes available in the UK this summer!
But it would be good to at least know when the date is, as it would stop a lot of these pointless posts saying "When's the GameCube being released???"

Anyway, i'm not finnished with my N64 yet!! So part of the money i'll hopefully be earning soon will still be going to N64 games! So maybe i'll still be playing it in the summer?? Either way, i'm not packing away my N64, like I have done with my SNES!

take such rumours with a pinch of salt- especially when you read them online!

Retailers have already started being contacted.
Some have been given details like the GC's price (£150 apparently), and I expect that plenty of other details too.

Enough to make preperations for the launch announcement atleast!

if, IF gamecube is rushed out, presumably it'll be for a strong launch, so unlike some other launches (64), we'd be pretty much guaranteed a launch at the best price possible, instead of starting artificially high, then the price falling later.

Then again, maybe the competition with xbox will keep the price low anyway. A relief to those of us with pre-orders, should it happen like that.

Strafex, the problem is that retailers have to know well ion advance of launch that it is happening in order to get pre-orders and other logistics ready.

By announcing the date in February, Nintendo have comletely ruled out a release before April- April being when I think it'll be.

Oh, and let's not forget the past- Nintendo have always kept very quiet about console release dates, letting people speculate that they'll launch v. soon... and when Ninty finally do release a console in Europe it's miles after people have thought!

I think that march 1st is the most likely (although we won't know exactly for 2 weeks).
Although the implementation is sudden, I think Nintendo have enough planning to pull it off.
They have the material, and the biggest factor deciding the UK launch was whether more Gamecubes were needed for America and Japan instead.

I think they're going to try and suddenly burst on the Gaming scene out of knowhere 2 weeks before the Xbox comes in.

It'll be half the price of the XBox, and titles like Rogue Leader looking just as good as any Xbox title.
I think they'll steal a hell of a lot of thunder and get a neat foothold in our market.

The N64 blew everything away when it first arrived with the likes of Mario 64, Turok and Mario Kart.
But lack of third party support and therefore, a lack of new games quickly left punters thinking: it wasn't THAT good after all...

Although the Gamecube won't take the limelight N64 style, it has enough support to stay afloat this time.

errr... and what a great job they're doing! Phone them up, and they have no idea about the GC release, saying only that it's up to Ninty Japan to sort that out!

Oh, and I bet they'll have a poor marketting budget too!
