I have been a big fan of the PES series for a long time, even the version on the SNES was a fantastic simulation of football. I am very impressed with he most recent version on the PS2 but I think that now Konami have got the gameplay at such a playable and entertaining standard, streets a head of the more shallow FIFA series, that perhaps they should now improve the other aspects of the game to make it a more immersive experience.

A few things that I would love to see in the next version include the following;

1. QUICK FREE KICKS
I think there should be no cuts during the match ie when the ball goes out for a throw in or freekick someone should run over and the camera should pan around behind the player ready for the set piece and a ballboy or another player should pass the ball to the kicker. This would allow quick free kicks to be taken and allow the player to sometimes try and catch the defense off guard before a complete wall is made. I have seen this feature in previous football games, i even think one of the ISS games featured it.

2. REFEREES AND LINESMEN
I want to see the ref trip over player be hit by the ball and run around backwards, I want see them point at the penalty spot and look at their watch towards the end of the match, surely it can't be that difficult o have three more people animated during the play.

3. MANAGERS AND RESERVES
When u use the tactic changes during play, i want to see he manager jump up and come to the touchline and wave his arms about, i want to see reserves warming up on the touchline ready for that crucial sub in the second half. Why not have them running up and down in tracksuits. Some of the football games on the Amiga had this feature.

These are just trimmings but I feel that they would serve to greater immerse the player in the experience, I know I would never look at another football game again if PES introduced some little extras like this. I have seen these features scattered around games on older platforms why can we not see them on todays powerfull machines.

that is a good idea about being able to move teams and get pay and stuff.
PES2 does have unlockable teams like Classic Brazil and Classic England but i particularly like your idea about unocking defining moments in football, it could show DVD footage of the last time England won the cup if you won the World cup.

We had a discussion about this a few months ago in the Sony forum, and i feel that PES should become a bit more arcady or more "easy" to play. By this i mean PES should have some unlockables, like extra teams and/or videos of defining football moments. By being a bit more "easy", i think that the game should become more managerial. Rather than just playing games in the master league, i think that players should leave if you are doing bad and want pay rises if you are doing well.

And Manual Diving I know there is a lot of fuss about fair play but if you can fool the ref then fine if not you get a yellow card that fair.

Yeah and also before the match you should see the players in the tunnel and then follow them out so u get a players eye view of the stadium full of screaming fans.

And at the end of the match you should see the crowd leaving the stadium, that would be cool.
