From C&VG.com:

Tecmo's Xbox "sports" title, Dead or Alive Xtreme Volleyball, has rocketed to the top of the Japanese charts after impressive day one sales. The top-heavy title shifted 72,881 in its first day at retail, beating of the challenge of Armored Core 3 on PS2, which sold 67,119 units.
This makes DOAX Volleyball the fastest selling Xbox title ever in Japan, which will bring cheer to developer Tecmo, whose Dead or Alive 3 is also the biggest selling Xbox title overall in Japan, with 154,906 units sold. But to add a little perspective, this pales in comparison to the millions already shifted by Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire on GBA.

And while the shock revelation that sex sells sinks in, it will be interesting to see what impact the title will have on struggling sales of Xbox hardware in the Far East.

Hopefully this game will help lift sales of the Xbox, and with Live launched along with PSO 1+2, maybe Xbox will start to look a bit more lively over there.

Thoughts?

Yeah but then thats like saying would you buy Tomb Raider if there were no Lara Croft and she were replaced by some fat sweaty pig of a girl. Take characters away from plenty of games and they'd sell nowhere near the amount they have.

Personally, I'd have liked to have seen more characters in DOA: Extreme Beach Volleyball such as the blokes that are usually in the game (and no I'm not going all weird on you lot !)
As far as volleyball games go, this seems to be about the best option you can get because besides playing the actual volleyball, you can visit arcades, casinos, etc. Plus its a game that really shows off what the X-Box can do which is more than what can be said for a lot of games that developers seem to just lazily port over from the PS2 with next to sod all improvement.

Thats the only thing I don't like about getting games from the PS2, they end up being lazy ports. At least with the X-Box getting Splinter Cell first, it was made with the X-Box in mind so it looked the nuts.
Looks like we're getting the Sims now - bet that ends up a complete replica of the PS2 game in both looks and playing options.

Question: take away the chicks and the 'bouncy breast technology' and would anyone buy this game?

Answer: no.

PSO on the Gamecube has edition 2 and in the future will get card battles.... X-box and PS2 does not.

DOAX got to number 2 and it rose the sales slightly but not dramatically as it is still definatly in third position for the week.

We play cards too.

Or used to, until I won all the money....and we got bored.

And I see Episode II is exclusive.

Oh, and Skies Of Arcadia too?

Excellent...

Oooooooo, blackjack. I play that quite a bit at work. We're not supposed to of course but after our football games upstairs were sussed, me and 2 others climbed up one of the highest stacks on the top floor of the warehouse, moved a few boxes around and made what we nicknamed the "speak easy" - anyone with any knowledge of prohibition in the States during the 1920's will understand the meaning of the name. ;-)

Basically, once the main work has run out, me and a few others climb upto the speak easy and play blackjack with porn cards that are stocked by the company. Played it for like 3 hours today. ;-))

And just as a quick brag - I was kicking butt today. I got pasted with a 20 card pick and still won. :-) And in case you're clued up on the rules and wonder how I got in that situation - we use 2 decks of cards so that more people can join in. ;-)

Yep, Episode II is exclusive to Nintendo GameCube. Need proof? How about the official website?
