I've been having a massive argument with my friend about David Blaine. he claims that he can really levitate whilst I (being fairly rational) don't believe it in any way or form. I think he's nothing but a cheap charlatan. Can someone please supply me with facts and/or evidence to back me up?

I'm referring to the trick he performs on a street when he seemingly hovers a few inches off the ground in front of disbelieving spectators.

Yeah, it's a TV trick.
The first bit you see is genuine, when he is inches of the ground on one foot.

But then, when he is higher, the camera shot is from the side of the spectators.

However, the second set of spectators are doubles wearing the same clothes as the original spectators.

It then cuts back to the origianls faces to see their reaction to the initial "few inches of the ground" levitation bit.

Thats competelty right, but I still dont know how my favourite trick is done. The one where he eats a live snake but it then appears unharmed. Do you know the one?

He does the trick with his feet, they film the reaction of the witnesses, then later re-film him doing the trick, but using wires (you could see them up close, but not on TV) so he gets a lot higher. They get fake shemps, dressed as the witnesses, to stand and watch, and the camerman films from behind the fake witnesses. All we see is the backs or legs of the "witnesses", and we assume it's them. They show that, then cut back to the real witnesses going "Oh my God! How did he do that?!"

Trick fooled them, and it fools us since we see him go really high, and think that's what the people on the street saw.

Simple.
