Please excuse me if this is an old story. I'm having problems with the DVD player on my PS2. I've only played two DVDs ever & they both have got just past halfway & then freeze & never move again. Games play fine. The screen shows a message that it can't read the disk. I've heard a similar problem with reading blue disks & CD's but DVD's were OK. Has anyone got any help? Thanks

Yes it gets rid of the green screen but does not give RGB picture. The Blaze scart cable gets rid of the green screen as well but neither this nor Region X give true RGB picture quality. play any DVD through a scart cable and you'll see that under the green colour it is a better picture, quality wise. Region X and the Blaze cable do not give this quality, they just turn off the RGB signal.

I may have to pick up a remote. I have started to get a few region 1 DVD's, and have had problems when watching The Fast And The Furious. The lip sync is quite noticably on it. Shrek region 1 played fine. I also have Tomb Raider region 1 and Final Fantasy region 1. I havent watched them yet even though I've had them for over 2 months.

The blaze lead works fine with the PS2 and any tv with a scart connection. It doesnt give RGB signal for DVDs though. To play DVDs correctly you move a switch on hte bit you insert into the PS2. This blocks the RGB signal forcing the normal composite signal to be displayed that you would get if you played DVDS using the leads you get in the box. For games you get scart RGB picture quality but for DVDs its just a way of not having to change cables. The green screen problem orignates inside the PS2 hardware and the only way round it is to have your PS2 modified, which invalidates the warranty.

I hadn't heard that, only what was in OPS2 mag. The thing is I've got a machine bought in February last year and I only bought hte DVD upgrade at xmas but...of the films you list I won all but skulls and have had no problem with them. Fact still remains that we all bought a PS2 which supposedly could play DVDs, not one that will play certain ones depending on when we bought it ! I've had no real problems but still don't realy think its that great.

I've never had any DVDs freeze half way through, My mate did a while back with the she's all that DVD but if you put the PS2 horizontal you shouldn't have any more problems.

Well, I've got a Currys here in Hereford, so I might get lucky! Anyway, I've got another question (sighs from crowd): the Blaze RGB lead in the SR mag is stated to be a 21 pin connection. My manual (the relevant page can be seen here: http://www.geocities.com/kingklik/tv.bmp) states it has a 16 pin socket. Can I still use an RGB connection on my TV?

Next question: where the heck can I buy a PS2 S-video lead from, seeing as SR don't sell them. I prefer to get official products, but if anyone can suggest a reliable, high-quality unofficial lead, I'll be happy.

Right, I've had major problems with some DVDs.

Armageddon only played half way through
Blade only played half way through
Gone in Sixty Seconds (Region 1) had major lip synch problems
Top Gun (region 1) had major lip synch problems
The Skulls (region 1) had major lip synch problems
Seven had major lip synch problems
Dogma (region 1) stopped for 5 seconds roughly haalf way through the film.

None of these problems occur after I installed the driver upgrade, take from that what you will. SCEA have also publically claimed that the new software fixes minor niggles with the DVD software.
