ELSPA, the European Leisure Software Publishers Association, has released figures that show massive growth in the UK gaming market. Overall sales were up a massive 36% on 2000 with annual sales now worth the staggering figure of £711 million!
"The leisure software industry has just seen it's most successful Christmas ever, boosted by the launch of new consoles and fantastic games to go with them," said ELSPA chief Roger Bennett. "The dramatic upward trend in sales values confounds some analysts who thought that the market had reached the end of its rapid growth. Instead, last year's performance confirms this as the most dynamic entertainment sector globally and one in which the UK is a major player both in terms of the public's voracity for the product and also the creativity of the software produced here."
ELSPA also took the time to mention the year’s best performing games, which included WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It, Tomb Raider 4, GTA 3, Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, Driver 2 and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Wicked, Harry Potter rules. The books are better, but it was also a good movie. Anyone played the game? Is it any good?
