Today I went to Leeds, partly to pick up £60 in cash for a website I did, partly to buy a massive stick of RAM and partly to buy a new game.
When I got there I went to CEX to see what was going on and pick up a hardware pricelist. RAM prices have shot up! ARGH! Next I went aaalll the way to the other side of Leeds to a barber's shop and picked up my cash. Unfortunately, it was a cheque. B****r. Really, really, bugger. This meant I only had £30 with which to eat and get home with, and my two 64mb sticks I had brought with me were only worth £5 each part-ex. Ah, never mind. I then trotted off to the CEX shop again, stopping in at GameStation. £37.99 for Max Payne PS2, not bad,. After going into the CEX shop for a second time, I went off to EB. £39.99 there, damnit. Also Dropship isn't out yet, so I'm well gutted. Ah well, never mind. Off to Game in the vain hope they will exchange reward points. Nope. B****r. Ah well, I suppose I'll just have to keep playing Silent Hill 2! ARGH! I can't take the pressure anymore!
Next stop, the Maccy Dee's in the St. John's centre for my usual cheeseburger, 6 chicken nuggets and medium fries, which cost £3.47. The price has gone up 20p! Grr.. Then I went to (another) barbers shop, got my hait cut and found out he's got another website for me. Groovy.
Then, I went home, stopping off at Choices on the way. FF:TSW still not released. A**e.
What I saw:
During my first visit to CEX, I saw the GC and Xbox next to each other side by side, for the first time. Jesus Christ. The Xbox literally dwarfes the GameCube. When they say the Xbox is big, they're not kidding. You actually have to see it before you can believe it, but this will give you a hint: Take one VCR, put another VCR on top of it. That is, literally, how big it is. It seems really stupid to me that it doesn't run vertically. The problem is, because it's rounded, detailed and plastic, you can't plonk a telly on top of it because you'd break it. It's also too large to go in an average VCR-sized hole and it's not exactly "portable". The Japanese are going to hate it. On the other hand, the GameCube is really tiny. Unbelievably even. However, it's a little larger than it looks in the screenshots, and it looks a little squat. Still nice though. Halo was running on the Xbox too, but I didn't get a chance to play it. All I can say is "meh" and "it looks like every other FPS". But then, FPSs aren't really my thing.
I also saw the fabled Panasonic GameCube. I have to tell you this, it doesn't look as good as it does in the screenshots, but it's still very sexy. It's obviously a little larger than the regular one and goes back further. If it ever comes out over here and the price (and quality) is sensible, I'd probably consider getting, partly because it's a damn sexy DVD player and because it also has a console thrown in. Only if it's about £200 though.
Another thing I saw: SONIC ADVANCE!!! It looks well good, shame I didn't get a chance to play it. I *WILL* have this game, if I have to sell my RABBITS I'll get this game. Oooooh, yeah. I also saw Tekken 4 on the GBA, which was... amusing. They also had a really sexy looking PC case, but enough of suck geekiness.
During my pop in to Game also I noticed something interesting. they had only just started taking pre-orders for the Xbox and they had a few posters around the place. No one seems to be looking at it much, but then I don't suppose I was expecting people to. Even more interesting however was a total lack of anything to do with the GameCube at all, in Game or anywhere else in Leeds (other than CEX, obviously). But anyway, what do you expect if Nintendo haven't stated a release date. Still. EB didn't even have an Xbox poster.
Something mildly shocking too in Game was a big display of MGS2 cases, under the "New releases" section. I nearly had a heart attack! Upon closer inspection however it said "Expected: March 8th". WFT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT THEN? It's over 2 months away! Someone *is* going to have a heart attack at that sooner or later. I think I might complain. Or maybe not. Meh.
What I heard:
This, I have to say, was the highlight of my day. In fact, this is the best thing that's happened to me for ages. In CEX, they have music playing really loud with crappy songs they've dragged up from God know's where/when. I walked in, and stopped dead. On the videowall was young one-off charity-stylee pop group doing their crappy pop group in red T-shirts, but what was coming out of the speakers was one of the best songs ever. It was the theme tune to the old Sonic cartoon set in a darker age under the rule of Robotnik they used to show on Channel 4. Oh, the memories came flooding back of the lil' Sonic and his little bunch of freedom fighters, very dark manga-esque animation, dawn raids on the Metropolis compound, brilliant humour, fantastic action, moving stories, and just everything that Sonic is. I went all mushy inside and left the store with a warm feeling. Sadly, no one knew what it was called but they guy said he'd try and find out. I hope to God, he does. I so hope he does.
So, that was one of the most interesting days I've had in recent times. Enjoy!
"Gamecube looks nice"
"Panasonic Gamecube looks sexy"

(i know what it means)
You really gonna get a GBA to play Sonic on? Or you just gonna emulate it?
