I admit it. I've been looking at the future of the space on top of my vcr with blinkered vision. All i could see was gamecube.
For me, the ps2 was too old, with too few big titles in the pipeworks for it to sit beside my tv (no offence sony lovers, just my opinion). As for the x-box... it was, well, the x-box.

Microsoft have always stated that their prime marketing strategy was word of mouth, to win over the hardcore gamers, and let the positive feeling filter through to the mass market.
Lets be honest, it didn't really work. As the US launch showed, sales were impressive, but greatly outstripped by the gamecube, and the general feeling in the UK seems much less receptive to the machine than stateside.

The forum members here are a pretty good example of some of the uk's gaming hardcore, and it's clear that most of us are either on sony's bandwagon or waiting for the 'cube. Oh yeah, and we all want to see bill gates fall flat on his face : )

But what about the console? Unlike the (slightly ageing) ps2, it's new, and harnesses state of the art technology. Unlike the cube (since panasonic's q-cube looks so unlikely to see euopean stores), it doubles as a dvd player.
Specs aside (thank me later ; ) )the power shown by the machine matches its rivals, and while getting a piece of the big multiplatform launches (Tony Hawk's, SSX, FIFA, for example), the x-box, like ps2 and gamecube, boasts its own great looking exclusive titles (Halo, Amped, Project Gotham Racing) worthy of drawing in an audience.

So why not? Why pass the x-box without a second glance? Because you don't like bill gates, microsoft, or what they stand for? Because you love cutting off your nose to spite your face?
Me? Eventually i considered it. Seriously. Personally, i don't need another dvd player, and prefer nintendo's launch titles. And price. But at least i considered it. Fairly. Didi you?

I have to say, that was one of the best and most unbiased posts i've read in a long time, so well done DD.

I pre-ordered my xbox today! I've already payed £65 of it so there is no turning back now, not that I would anyway.
What struck me today is how close the UK xbox launch actually is. My local GAME had huge black and green XBOX posters all over the place, I made me feel excited. I also pre-ordered Halo because it would be cheeky not to. Less than two months to go now, I can't wait.

And I also can't wait for JSRF. If you look at didgi they say it's a UK xbox launch title!

Yes it did! MS bought Bungie, and bought righst to some top games like Munche's Oddeysee (which was THE thing for the PS2 that everyone was raving about!). Oh, and if the marketting was mainly word of mouth, explain the $500 million advertising budget???? And the sales figures showed that this move pulled of......

As

Up to Xmas, the official figures were Gamecube 1.3 million units, Xbox 1.5million units. NOT ONLY THIS, but the Xbox had a 2.4 : 1 software hardware ratio, whereas the Gamecube only had a 1.9 : 1 ratio. So, not only was the Xbox more expansive, but it sold more units, AND people who bought an Xbox bough more games on average than people who bought a Gamecube... So WHAT ON EARTN DO YOU MEAN BY "greatly outstripped by the gamecube".

Well, it depends WHICH forum members you talk to. I've found that most people will, as you say, be buying a GC because of the first party games, HOWEVER, people also realise the Xbox has a great launch (in my opinion the best launch ever), and that it really is a serious console.

Oh yeah, and we all want to see bill

You know what Bill Gates will do with all his money? All but $3million of it is going to charity. That 3 million is going to his kids...

And people hate him because they think he's a spoilt prat?

Actually you need to buy an upgrade to play DVDs... slightly cheeky seeing as the console is £300 to start with!

No official confirmation. But I've read in several different places that it's due for release in the US in late Spring/early Summer.
By all accounts it's gonna be faster and much, much bigger with generally more flashy FX.

I'm getting an Xbox - no doubt about it.
Facts like the PS2 version of Max Payne has been cut-down with chucks of the game missing, whereas on the Xbox it's fully intact is the kind of information that has swayed me.
Another reason is Jet Set Radio Future which will be released very soon after the European launch.
Playable Xbox terminals will be appearing in GAME stores in Feb.

Not really, PS2 was £299.99 and the X-Box is £297.99.

the xbox is good but it just does'nt have the games i like, maybe a few but they are available on other console or most probably the pc and besides the cost is outragous (and rumours of a ps3 just make me less willing to invest in the xbox)

I considered the XBOX but in the end for me (and i guess for a lot of people) it comes down to cost. The XBOX can have as much processing what have you and hard drive thingy ma bobs as it likes, it doesnt matter if you cant afford it in the first place.

To me the Gamecube is the most economical option for a fresh console sat next to my TV, so thats what its gonna be.

I've considered it. I've considered that I'd have to sell my PS2 if I wanted to get one, and the PS2 has far more titles that appeal to be than any other, inclusing the Xbox. Besides, the Xbox literally WOULDN'T fit in my bedroom. I've measured it.
