You lucky people. Anyway, to my question - of all the games you've got on the GC, could you tell me if the loading times are barely noticeable, or PS2-like? If you have any conversions that have made it both onto the PS2 and the GC, all the better - I'm just seeing if there are noticable diferences in loading times between consoles.

The loading times before races on Waverace are quite long. Not terribly long, but not instant like in the original. But while your waiting for it to load you get to play around with a little water blob thing, and make ripples on the screen!

Well, put it this way, I've not noticed any loading-times. Well, except when you first plonk the game in anyway.

But, er no. I can't see any complaints about loading-times being posted here, let's just say that eh?

Streaming has been used for decades...

Your CD player uses it!

And games like Sould Reaver perfected it.

BUT that is different to what DOA2 did. After all, you can't stream a whole level at once now... can you! If anyone can explain how DOA2 did it, please please tell me

A recent technological advancement, known as 'stream loading', eliminates loading times entirely. Using this technique, data is continously loaded, but it tiny amounts, as the game is playing.
For example, as you're messing about in the menu, the game is actually loading up the game data, in preparation for you to begin playing.
The first game I know of to use this technique to great affect is Jak&Daxter on PS2.

Well if developers WANTED games could have no loading times.

Soul Reaver on the PSX and DOA2 on the DC are 2 examples of completely different games that have no loading times, even though one has to change level completely (DOA2).

However, all the loading optimisation takes time to code, and for that reason developers often don't bother and just leave things as default.

I bet the Cube's loading times are much faster, and apparently they are. I think it must be something to do with those tiny 8cm discs. SIZE-DOES-MATTER!!!

probably the game to compare would be Tony HAwks 3 cos it is available on both... unfortunately I don't have a PS2 or a GC so I couldn't tell you. But no doubt it will depend on the game, etc. and how much data it is loading, blah blah, but if you compare the same title (Tony Hawks) then you should get a good idea.
