"SEGA - Bad Sports"

In a recent announcement, SEGA unfortunately revealed that rumours of them ceasing all sports titles for GameCube were, in fact, correct. The following statement was taken from cube-europe:

"Sega has been evaluating its resources and product lineup to ensure it is bringing the right games to the right platforms as the company builds toward becoming a profitable, independent content publisher. After careful examination, Sega has made the strategic decision to support the Nintendo GameCube with a priority on delivering its leading entertainment properties such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball, proven franchises which have been top sellers on the system.

Sega will focus its sports development resources on delivering its Sega Sports games to the PlayStation 2 and Xbox on time at the start of each season. Sega is committed to the Nintendo GameCube and will continue to support the platform with its leading entertainment properties, including the recently announced Sonic Adventure DX, as well as many other titles yet to be announced."

I have to say, the only thing bad about this may be the negative publicity it attracts. Apart from that - what decent, GameCube sports titles do SEGA have to their name? Yes, there's Beach Spikers but really - what else are we missing out on?

Skies Of Arcadia is an RPG and you're an air pirate. Sounds very good, but I hope SEGA will start developing some new, original GameCube exclusives now that they've given up on sports.

Yes

It doesnt really matter if the other consoles get games as long as we have them as well. However in the case of Sega Sports titles its not a major loss. They were indeed not particularily good and I cant really name one that I'd call a must have title. As long as we get games like SOA I am happy. Even if it is pretty old :P

No, they won't. And, because that the Sega Sports games were, on the whole, 'crap' (as Whitestripes bluntly puts it), I'm quite pleased with this announcement. Why? Because now they can concentrate on the really class games such as Sonic, Skies Of Arcadia and Super Monkey Ball.
