Despite the unlikelihood of Nintendo opening a theme park, to place one in the UK is just preposterous. But lets face it, it isn’t a bad idea. Much to the same idea as Disney Land we could split the park up into sections, a Mario Section entitled the Mushroom Kingdom, a Zelda section entitled the land of Hyrule, a Donkey Kong section entitled Donkey Kong island which is built in the middle of a lake and to finish it all off we could have Pokémon World (or Jhoto although few may understand that).
The Mushroom Kingdom:
Aha Mario’s area here a centre piece would consist of Peach’s castle, the castle will include items for sale such as Mario teddies, watches and many, many games. Other shops will litter the area such as food shops, clothes shops and basically every other item that Nintendo could sell to advertise their franchise. At various points in the day a Parade will be launched, here you will see Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser, Wario etc… prance around the streets as people watch on. This area is the all round area as Mario always has been, mixing thrill rides with more gentle ones. Play Dodgems in Mario Karts could be one of the many rides you can enjoy another interesting take would be a haunted house entitled Luigi’s Mansion where Boo’s and other such ghosts could pop out on you. A small roller coaster where children ride on the back of Yoshi’s around the Yoshi Island Volcano can also be found. Toad and Mario are often found wondering the area holding balloons and hugging children. A nice circus style area can be located where Mario fires himself out of cannons and swings across ropes high up where one slip could end it all. Game arcades can be found. You can also go down a large slide ala Mario 64 and ride across water on the back of large dragons.
The Land of Hyrule:
The wonderful Zelda themed area with a giant Mountain being the centrepiece of this land named Goron Mountain. You can actually go into Goron Mountain and just like Ocarina of Time several shops will be around, fair style games are also found such as can you throw the ball into the pot? Winning will generate small prizes such as a Link toy. One shops will sell every Zelda item known to man, Toys, Teddies, games, Clothes etc… an other shop will sell food items like sweets and Hotdogs. Goron Mountain is also a giant Roller Coaster where you climb to the top of the mountain and race down it; along the way you will see robotic Goron’s rolling down the hill. On the outside you can find stage shows featuring sword fights with Link, Zelda and Ganondorf and as in the Mushroom Kingdom parades featuring Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Goron’s, Zora’s, Hyrulians, Kokiri’s etc…
Water rides are present go to Zora’s river and enjoy a white-knuckle ride down a waterfall through the gorgeous land of the Zora’s. Thrill rides apart more gentle rides can be found such as a slide down the great Deku tree and there’s even a fishing game. Fancy some posh eating? Then pop into Hyrule castle for one of the best restaurants around.
Donkey Kong Island:
Cross the bridge to the island with a face on it, a dense forest grows here and the sounds of tropical wildlife can be heard welcome to Donkey Kong Island. Members of the Kong family are often seen wondering around swinging across branches. You will meet broken bridges along the way and discover many secret caves. Much more theme based than the others and very few shops can be found although a food store covered in bananas can be located as can a small shop selling DK bananas, T-shirts and other merchandise. You can fly around the island in a reasonably gentle ride called Diddy Kong Pilot, jumping into one of Funky Kong’s planes enables you to fly around the island and view several set pieces including swinging Munkey’s, rolling barrels and even the hidden cave of King K-Rool.
This ride is reasonably gentle if your looking for more thrill filled rides then leap into the mine and prepare yourself for the fastest stomach churning ride you will ever seen as you twist and turn in your mine cart through the dimly lit tunnels underneath DK island. Watch as K-Rools henchmen chase you through the tunnels as your route gets lit up by an odd parrot with a torch. Other rides include a water ride on Enguarde this ride isn’t gentle but nor is it white knuckle but it is generally an enjoyable experience as you find the sunken pirate ship beneath DK island. Diddy Kong Racing where you jump into carts and race around a small track can also be found at the back of the island.
Pokémon World (Jhoto and Kanto):
The biggest area of the park, Pikachu and friends are often seen wondering around waving and hugging little children. There is many shops selling food, Clothes, Pikachu merchandise, Pokémon games and of course cards. The rides are mainly gentle, riding Ponyta or Rapidash in a carousel style ride, Jump on a Lapras for a gentle ride in the water (up to three on each Lapras). The thrill ride can be found underneath in the caves where you ride on Squirtle’s through an underground area, it is gentle for the most part where you can see Pokémon act naturally Pokémon Snap Style but does speed up towards the end, Talking of Pokémon snap you can ride all around Nintendo Land in the Pokémon snap hover vehicle (Zero one) with stations in each land. Flying on the back of Pidgeots could be great fun, play many fun games such as smack the Diglit as they pop out of the ground, if you turn around you will see another Pokémon scene with Jigglypuff singing and another with Jumpluff leaping around. Can you work your way out of the maze in Viridian forest? There are many rides and places to explore in this picturesque area.
The Centre:
The final area is also the start, here you will find many games arcades of which you can play any number of Nintendo games and play on one of the many avalible Gamecube’s on display, shops and Restaurants a plenty, buy Gamecube’s, Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox toys, T shirts, Stationary, Bed spreads and so many other items. There is a large movie complex where Pokémon, Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda cartoons are often shown with the odd appearance of a Pokémon or Mario movie. Here you can buy fast food such as Yoshi Burgers or Magicarp and chips. Rides wise there isn’t many other than the one or two that won’t fit in any other areas, you can ride on Wave Race style Jet skies in a small pond and you might be tempted by the virtual reality Starfox ride. This central hub will have gates leading to the various worlds.
Firework displays and Parades featuring all the characters from many other games also occur here and watch out for those nuisances, Pikmin who are found in various grassy areas. Of course I have only mentioned a handful of the rides from each area but that should be enough to realize that a Nintendo Land wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
