Splinter Cell nears it's PS2 and GC release. Turns out Splinter Cell has been in "multi-format" development for some time (while it was pushed as an XBox only game), and as a result the PS2 release will have more features than the original XBox version.

What ARE you talking about. IB's saying that he could buy far superior equiptment for the same price as a PS2. And also, Graphics cards and the like need to be upgraded regularly to play certain games. A PC bought 1 year ago wouldn't be able to handle UT2003, or C&C generals very well either. SO they need to upgrade the equiptment.

Insane's got the wright name, he must be Insane to spent all that money on emulators, graphic cards and software upgrades then again he is just one of the many pumpets brain washed by Bill Gates that is why you are on this website now and Bill is seating at the head of his empire still raking in money from morons like you that come back time and time again.
Rather sad really its like a fix that you have to have the latest graphics cards, or processor next thing you will be putting wheels on your PC and going on PC cruises round town.

Emulation is 6hit. What about "old" pc games that fall over when loaded on XP? Do you really think people are going to downgrade to Win95 to run them? - not to mention that fact they may loose compatibility with their new photo inkjet printer or digital camera if they did.
A family member of mine just bought a 1.2Ghz PC with 256Mb Ram. It's not bad, but it's hardly groundbreaking. And they have had a few XP compatibility issue's. How about software installations that freeze half way through, nice! And in 6 months time, software will be moving up to the next level (again), meaning it will run more slowly on their PC. Their 1.2Ghz tower with printer, mouse, keyboard, & monitor, 256Mb Ram cost £600.

PDA and other similar hardware is really shifting along well in terms of power at the moment. Games on this will make the GBA look hopeless by years end. But then, the software behind PDA's and other mobile equipment is not bloated like Windows on the PC. This free's up a lot of CPU power.
And I could buy a PC for the same price as a PS2 and a couple of games that would easilly surpass it.

Perhaps you mean, "a modern PC IS superior". But in any case, this moves away from the expansion issue - lets face it a good P4 with a good size screen, etc, etc, will cost more than a PS2. But then a PS2 is a console, not a PC. Sure, the PC can do other things - and that's fine. But it clearly shows that the PC is not a console and a console is not a PC. I see that even MS are limiting their XBox Live service to just games. Email and Web access will still require a PC setup. Same thing again - missed opportunity I think - and yes Sony and Ninty will probably make the same mistake. If you spend enough money, I would say a new pc could surpass all the current console's - but the end quality would still partly be down to the individual games, and with the WinXP OS being bundled as standard now - there would be some compatibility issue's.

Yes, but using technology of today, you could probably get that into a PALM operated PC thingmaajiger, (you know what I mean, but I can't think of their names).

You'll note, if you'd been reading properly, that I originally stated that a "modern PC" was superior to a PS2. A 7 year old Pentium machine is hardly modern.
