Hi there,

I bought an RGB-AV Cable for my lovely N64 but all I get is a blank black screen when I try to play my games. The TV is a Bush model which has a built in video player and I recently phoned up Bush (not president Bush) and they say it's RGB compatable so that's not the problem. The power lead is attached properly to my N64 because the red light lights up on the system, the TV also powers-up ok so that proves the power lead is plugged in, and there's only so hard one can push an RGB cable into the N64 and TV connectors without breaking them. Oh, and before you ask, the game cartridge is properly pushed in.

So there's not much else I can think of that mite be causing the problem other than maybe an option on the TV needs adjusting or something. But there's not many options on my TV. I have tried the old conventional Aeral method to see if the problem is also there but my games load fine, albeit with the usual aerial static fuzz. Suggestions please?

Well that confirms the RGB cable is broke :(

Thanks for your help, dude.

Right, try this:

Connect the composite cable you got with the GC into the scart adaptor that came with it, and try that. If it works, then it's not your TV.

Yeah, it will be a composite connection like you say because the front sockets are yellow and white. So the 20 pin connection at the back must be what's RGB compatable. I'll phone up Bush again to make sure but I'm going to have the RGB lead swopped anyway.

Hmmm... the two coloured connection sounds like a composite- are they Yellow and White/red?

And the picture is much better using an RGB cable than a composite one.

I have a sepperate question. Is an AV lead the same as a SCART lead in terms of picture quality? And do they both send the same RGB signal to the TV?

There's the 20pin connection at the back and a 2 coloured AV connection at the front of the TV.

heres an idea, maybe a bot late, does the tv have more than 1 Scart input???? if yes then often only one is RGB compatible, often the first one, try using the other scart input if it has one,

One of the pins in the leads may be bent. Check them.

The TV has a built in video and there are no wires to discconnect it from the TV. There's just two AV channels and the normal channels. It's ok, I'll just get it replaced and see if a fault was to blame all along.
