It's not really relevant unless you develop for PDA's, Mobile phones, WebTV and e-books

Not when parsing from one to another... it saves having to re tag everything... It's kind of like reverse XML?

Its a descriptive tag. It doesn't do anything visually but alot discriptively. If you parse your code from HTML to xHTML to WML to whatever, it retains the information between this tag keeping it's context.

On of the wonders of HTML4 is the ability to add to the DTD so effectively you could have as long as you describe it within the DTD.

Are, things are about to get confusing!!

A Rob... Sorry mate, didn't see the link.

A descriptve Tag... Defined in HTML 4 because of it's tight integration to xHTML and XML allowing you to parse the information backwards and forwards while retaining it's context...

Ta Da... Unfortunately HTML 4 is only relevant if you adhere it strictly, which included adding a strict HTML4DTD.

So yes.. is in the HTML4 spec, but useless if your site doesen't adhere to it correctly.

FFS, did anyone even look at that link I gave? It's part of the official HTML 4.0 spec for Christ's sake!

I noticed that it seems to be like the ALT="" Tag withing in as all it seems to do is display some test when you move over the image, which is what the ALT="" does.

But it must be partly official as why would it work in IE ???(dunno about NS)
