"Boxes."

Is it something about PC games and PC components that causes this. Every console game has a box that just fits the game inside it. This is good. However, no sooner than do PC manufacturers realises that the boxes for their games are too big, and they should start packaging them in DVD-size cases, than the boxes for components are bigger. Three years ago, my Voodoo 3 box was about 150% of the card's length. Now, however, my Hercules 4500 box is at least twice the length of the card. This is not justifiable. Geforce 3 boxes are huge. The same applies to sounds cards.

It cant be the packaging that protects the card, since this is just cheap plastic. It could be half the size of the current size and still be suitable. Why is this waste neccessary? Contrary to popular belief, size DOES NOT MATTER. Can't these people get it through their thick skulls?

The american ones are in boxes similar to a DVD case. Although the ring inside will obviously be smaller due to them being optical disks.

That reminds me, are nintendo using plastic cases for the GC DVD's, or are the gits still insisting that cardboard is the way to go?
