Yes- we should take on the euro in the UK
No- I don't want the euro used in this country
just yes or no- like the notable elections. It will be intrested to see the results.
> No
> There's going to be too much bother if we do.
Thats a fairly apathetic response. Do you not care what happens to your country?
You expressed an opinion but merely stated the 'hassle' involved in changing over.
See my post 'Euro-Gamers' in FoG (Prime) for more.
Off to Paris in a month so I will see how its getting on then.
It will be good for trade because Britain currently suffers from a Strong Pound, meaning that it costs more for us to export goods.
There will be short term negative effects, we lose control of the ability to set interest rates. This is an important tool in the regulation of inflation. However, this problem is negating by two things. Basically bfore you enter the Euro you have to meet certain criteria. Now the idea is once all the countries are at this point, they will be converging on one point and the European central bank will lock them all together, so all the Euro economies will be similar enough for a unilateral interest rate decision to have similar effects accross the board. Secondly interest rates are a fairly superficial way of tackling inflation. Ultimately you want to improve the ability of the economy to produce, and in that way the Demand of consumers for products will never rise above the supply of products, which is what causes inflation. The government has put in place many policies that should ensure that the supply side expands over time, hopefully ending the boom-bust dynamics of the past two decades.
I'm not suggesting that the Euro is going to be a guaranteed, cast-iron success. I do, however, think that when it is looked at on balance the benefits of joining greatly outweigh the benefits from staying out. If the UK does not adopt the Euro as its principle currency then there is a danger that many international businesses will simply pull out of the country and set up in Europe, where the Euro is breaking down trade barriers. If that happens then Britain could well be set on the path to economic problems. If we join the Euro soon then we will join it at a time when the British economy has never been stronger. Indeed, the only blip on the UK economic performance sheet is trade, in which we lose over £20bn to foreign countries, through people buying imports. The Euro would greatly aide Britain's trade position.
Maybe that's a detailed response but at least I know the facts and I'm not going to say yes or no through either jingoistic nonsense or because the sun tells me to.
I say, strongly, yes.
Although in saying that I don't care THAT much.
I think it is sensible that this shambles of a country should join up with their European cousins. If your some conservative arishole, shouting SAVE THE POUND and reading The SUN then I want to kick your head in.
Patrioism sucks... I don't know why English people are so patriotic, England sucks. Scotland does too, but not so much.
because Britian needs to stay with the Pound we don't want to join with the europe countrys we need tobe different and independant
There's going to be too much bother if we do.
> Nope, I have a reason if you want to hear it Chris.
Yes I would, if anyone else has reason please say.
