You misunderstand my point entirely.
Read the first part again
Substantial subject matter
We have, apprently, shorter attention spans and less time to do anything much at all. So, therefore, people only take time to talk about things that really interest them, experiences they've had and conversations that are actually going somewhere.
Say, for instance, someone came up to you and said
"Talk about games. Go on, talk"
You'd be a little stuck (although I'm sure you'll deny this) for things to say. That statement is such a broad one, no-one has any ideas on the matter.
It's always been like this - people need to be foucsed in on things, they need a small suject to talk about to start off with, then expand upon it. Starting with such an ambiguous statement doesn't interest anyone, it just confuses and puts off.
What if, on the other hand, someone came up to you and said
"Talk about what you think of MGS2. Go on, talk"
THAT is a specific question, that's what gets people talking. That's why people write topics on a specific subject, to get people talking about it, not just rambling on aout nothing much.
A topic about games is all well and good, but it's to broad for anyone to take notice of it.
In an exam, if the question was
"Write some stuff about science. Chemistry mostly"
Then you'd be baffled - where to start? What do they want?
A topic without any structure, any purpose is useless, usually classes as spam. Because it does not invoke any real conversation beyond
"I like GC"
From some little JAT.
That's all I'm saying. If you're gonna make a topic, pick a specific subject first. THEN people can talk to you.
In a direct answer to your question, I come on here to talk about games. Specific games, what other people think of them, what new ones are coming out.
I look for specific subject to talk about, things that interest me.
Sure games interest me, obviously, but this topic lacks any real solid reason for being here, it's too open, to blurred, to unsure of itself to really be anything.
You can't go through lie saying you want to do every job avaliable, take every career path - it's just not possible. Such is the way with conversation, people actually need something to talk about beyond the base subject - which is games.
Make a topic with some substance, and you may get some good replies.
I bid you good day, sir.

There are two 100 meg files that you have to dl off the internet, which is really really bad if you don't have broadband.
