Before I bought my PS2 I used to buy a fair few PC games. These were mostly strategy type games, e.g. Red Alert 2, and firts person shooters like Operation Flashpoint, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear e.t.c. Now the PS2 may excel in driving games, platform games and other genres but the shooter selection has been dire.

Time Crisis 2 is the only really excellent example and it offers no long term challenge. Agent Under Fire is an improvement but the AI is poor, and Timesplitters....well it was a launch game. Thunderhawk was terrible and Dropship doesnt seem much better, and Top Gun......oh dear.

What is really great about games like Ghost Recon is that you know you're characters are dead if they take a few shots, the AI is remarkably good, and when the firefight erupts its pretty close to real life as you can get. Operation Flashpoint is the kind of game that the PS2 should be able to run easily, even on a low end PC it looks amazing. But instead we get the sparsely populated Dropship environments.

With Metal Gear Solid 2 nearing the situation still doesnt look close to being sorted out, MGS2 is more stealth than shooting isnt it ? USSOCOM seems stuck in development limbo and ......hmm ran out of things to say....

No shooting games eh.....Devil May Cry ? MGS 2? and all the other game that the previous bloke listed. Ok the PS2 focuses more on Racing and RPG's but the shoot-em-ups we get are always a good play. Each consoles has there own main genre, PC has the strategy, DC goes for arcade, GC mainly platform games. It just depends which one you get to which types of games you will get.

I'm not too sure of how it is "missing". The PS2 has lots of good games that are revolved around shooting - Red Faction, Quake 3, Half Life and Unreal Tournament to name a few. The P.C has by far the most FPS titles to that on any other format - so it was unfair to draw such a comparison.
