Is it possible to stretch a background image in a table, so it fills the width and height of the cell, unrepeated?!

That should do the trick - just make a
with a table to match. Only problem is it doesn't work proper in Netscape and is difficult to position properly when the table is halfway down the page and likely to stretch. Actually, on second thoughts I don't recommend using this.

You could try using a layer behind the table that's set to stretch with the table, the put the image in that. Always works for me.

Or anyone, really. Actually, you don't need to use layers, just CSS.

Just use your graphics program to crop and stretch it. Save the stretched image, then use the tag.

If you really wouldn't want to do that, the try http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com

I'm sure you'll find a tutorial in there. Just click on Style Sheets.

If the table is a definite position, width and height, then you can do it with layers. Is it?
