I think Everton have the quality to challenge for Europe but they just dont have the right manager they lost again against Middlesbrough their 5th defeat in a row.Do you lot think its time for a change at Everton.

I have always seen Everton as a midtable team. They have never appeared to be good enough to challenge for a European place, but then again, they are probably too good to be relegated. Everton's bad un of form has really got hardly anything to do with the manager. If you watch some of theuir games, some of the players give up far too easily and they could do with improving their strike rate. The manager picks the team week in, week out, but the players are the onres who need to perform when picked, and Walter Smith is a manager capapble of winning things with teams, as he has done before, but Everton having the financial problems doesn't help and unless they can bring in a few new players, quality ones, Everton will probabl;y continue to finish around midtable every season, but slowly drop towards the relegation zone.

Thanks for reading, now I need a cup of tea!

I have not said he is not a good manager becuase he is the 2nd best manager in the UK as his record shows.

But he is a manager like many other, that don't believe that motivation can help lift the team up the table.

Gordon Strachon believes and has achieved this with Southampton. It takes a while, but does work in the first season.

Names like Gary Megson and David Moyes have been passed around as successors to Smith but I an Everton fan don't believe that they are good enough to manage in the top divison with very limited funds.

If they do come in Smith better stay to offer his experience and he has enough of it!

Give this man a chance I say!

We all know what a great manager he *can* be....

At the moment theyre just out of the relegation spot, but if they drop into it, then thats when he shoul really start worrying.

Personally I htink Everton have to HIGH expectations. A 17th league position at the end of the season should be a good achievment for them, when you look at the players and money that they currently have.

Walter Smith has had a hard job at Everton. You are right they should be changing for Europe. But Everton lack quality.

Everton are approx. £33 million in debt and are moving to a new stadium in the next 4 years, this means that they have every little money to spend.

The only player we bought with Money over the summer was a Radzinski who has not proved enough goals becuase of lack of support and service.

Walter Smith has always had money to spend before joining Everton, that is why he made a Great Rangers side in the early 90's. But i think he is not a motivating manager and Everton need that Motivation.

Names liek Martin O'Neill and Gordon Starchon are exellcent examples of this and achieved things by doing this. Although Gordon has not won any cups, but this season has turned Southampton from being plain old rubbish to an a good side that could be challenging for Europe come the end of the season.

Everton can not afford to sack Walter as he has a £2 Million clause. So Everton will have to move him upstairs to say Director of Football.

When Everton have had the money to spend on new players, previous Everton Managers have spend badly. Players like Pistone, Gemmill, Nyarko, Ferguson (2nd time), Tal, Steve Watson, Xavier and Alexandersson.

Some of these players ask high wages and do not care about the club (apart from Ferguson)and they do not give 100% for the club every game.

Everton will find it hard to find a good enough replacement manager as there are few that would want to move to Everton in the state it is now in!
