Both Microsoft and Electronic Arts could potentially benefit from a purchase of Sega. Microsoft is always looking to add to its stable of developers to produce exclusive Xbox titles, and a purchase by Electronic Arts would remove a competitor. Both companies are also trying to bolster their presence in Japan.
Spokespeople at Microsoft and Electronic Arts would not comment on an impending deal, and a Sega spokewoman said that the company had not been approached.
Microsoft and Electronic Arts have also reportedly expressed interest in buying Vivendi Universal’s games unit, which was put on the block earlier this year.
