Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are already clashing sabres in America, a huge console war is being waged, and as yet the winner is uncertain. At present in the UK, this is a one horse race with only the PS2 available, however March could see the competition open up considerably with the release of Gamecube and X-Box. As we already know, this three way contest is going to be close, and whilst the PS2`s head start has made it look strong, it can’t afford to become complacent. However, what would happen if a fourth console were to enter this war?

Maybe a year ago now, there were talks of the “Indrema”, a console said to be the most powerful around. Sadly this machine was never to be, and was scrapped mere months after it was announced. It had surprising potential, but had neither the support nor backing to stand up to the powerful companies such as Sony.

In a shocking news report earlier this evening, a new console has been announced. Instead of publicising their console years in advance, this company have chosen to keep everything top secret until mere months before the consoles release. With all the hype surrounding the other three contenders, this may have been a sensible move. Perhaps they chose to allow the hype to settle a little, and follow it with this shock announcement, thus sealing a lot of interest, albeit confused curiosity.

Reports suggest that the power of this machine could put even the most powerful of PCs to shame. Boasting polygon counts in the billions – shocking after having only spent time in the millions for a few years – this console looks set to be the best of the best for many years to come. The central processor speed is over 2000 MHz, more than double that of the X-Box. Other figures are as yet unknown, but insiders have said: “They will be more than enough to compete for the rest of this decade”.

No game titles, or even game publishers had been announced until today, leading to a colossal salvo of news busting, ground breaking games arriving all at once, each capable of setting a console on fire! All the big names including Capcom, Squaresoft, EA, Activision and more are on board. Today, each of these developers were given the chance to speak openly about this new console, rather than having to keep everything under wraps. A spokesman from EA said: “We are extremely proud to finally be able to announce our new games for this console. Having to keep quiet for so long was a major task when we were so excited about what this console had let us achieve”.

Other developers were similarly happy. A representative from Activision was quoted saying: “We have online games appearing on other consoles, however, we will be concentrating most of our online efforts to this console as we expect this to take most of the public interest. We are told the machine will be released with all the traditional online connection options, as well as broadband features. On top of this, the network system they will use has already been confirmed, making this the safest online option for any company to put money into.”

Final Fantasy may be a name associated very closely with the Sony brand in recent years, and the recent “help” that Sony has provided appeared to have confirmed a close relationship. However, this hasn’t stopped sketchy rumours of Final Fantasy 12 appearing on the console. Similarly shocking is a sneaky message from Miyamato himself at the head of Nintendo: “Should our Gamecube follow the same fate as the Dreamcast, resulting in us becoming third party developers, I can guarantee Mario will be on this latest console wonder!”

Further information has been leaked, showing that his console will have 8 controller ports. On top of this, it comes packaged with all online facilities and a 160 Gb hard drive, straight out of the box. Whilst no pictures of it have yet been released, fashion expert Julio Madras has described it as “A sexy console you’d leave all your wives for”. Similarly impressive is the fact that this console will be released next March, worldwide (a simultaneous launch that people have wanted for many years), and will retail at £149.99. The games will be sold separately, and retail at a reasonable £29.99.

The more observant among you will have noticed that the console developer has not yet been named. However, you may have noticed that when the first letter of each paragraph above is put together with the rest, it gives a hefty clue. So there we have it...

Alternatively, I could have written something like: The console war is over. We are at peace... and gone on about love and stuff... and ended with "How refreshing, how Heineken".

Maybe next time :-)
