"The Truman Show: Careys best?"

Last night was the first time I’ve seen the Truman Show and something struck me about Jim Careys acting in the film.

Carey usually only plays one character in all of his films but in this film we all saw something different in him. He normally plays a crazy, out of control character in all of his films. No films have really tried to test out his skills because he normally stars in films like The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, which gives him a crazy image.

In the Truman Show Carey played a very believable character. Some the scenes he did were brilliant. At the end when he was trying to escape in the boat. It was some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. You could actually feel his pain.

Instead of playing a weird and wonderful he plays a casual character with a lot of dramatic scenes he has to play. This film does a lot of justice for Carey. At some times you could almost cry he was so good. This is 5* film with a 5* actor in it.

The Truman Show is an excellent film, but I can't help but prefer his comedic rules. Don't get me wrong, it was all too refreshing to see Carey under reasonable "control" in a role, but this lacked the little of Carey's formular that is there in his other films.

I think his best film was Dumb and Dumber - I can't help but laugh at the half-wit idiocy. That film is too damn funny for anyone to resist, and with Jeff Daniels thrown int the mix - oh my god!

I think that the Cable Guy guy was mediocre at best, making that his worst film in my opinion. Oh, the Grinch comes in second - plausable stuff.

Love this film, one of my favourites.

Carrey is excellent in it.

Mind you, I do like most of his films, especially Cable Guy.

Yes, I too think that this is the best Carey film and certainly one that will have people who previously hated him thinking again. The fact that he can play a character straight and make him go a little crazy at the same time is testiment to his actual acting ability.

It's funny though, the first time I saw this film I was just waiting for him to virtually 'burst out' of the character into some other bizarre character similar to the ones he normally plays, but to my joy he kept it just the right side of manic.

i too watched it for the first time, i thought it was a very good film and shows that carey can act. also man on the moon, even tho i think the film is crap, carey shows again how good an actor he is.

the only other films he did that i liked were me, myself and irene and dumb and dumber.

i have not seen the mask, the batman film he is in or liar liar (yet)

i didnt like the ace ventura's or cable guy (now that sucked and blowed at the same time *bart simpson quote*).

but carey still acts his parts very well. he is a fine actor indeed, not one of the greats but he is good.

im not a big jim carrey fan i ussually find his humour a bit immature but he was really good in the truman show and he was also good in me myself and irene, the mask and liar,liar where alright but dumber and dumber and ace ventura where shocking.

It is a brilliant film and definately Careys best yet!! It does make me paranoid though!!
