Do you want the main Final Fantasy Series on the Gamecube? I don't.
Do you want the main Metal Geat Solid Series on the Gamecube? I don't.

Konami and Squaresoft have come underfire for their treatement of the Gamecube. Although they have both confirmed killer titles they are unwilling to place their main game series' on the Gamecube. Sure Crystal Chronicles is nice but can't we play XI or whatever? Yep this exclusive Metal Gear Solid game is cool but it won't be apart of the main series as it wouldn't bea cube exclusive... can't we just get MGS2 substance? Why put all this effort into new games?

Do you actually want that?

NO you see I don't think it is to do qith squaresoft that we aren't getting the main FF series... I think it is down to Nintendo. I mean the Gamecube is a unique gaming experience... it uses conectivity as its main form of expression (although not to major effect yet) and it plays in very different ways. Nintendo don't want ports of PS2 games... they want Gamecube games. Hence the specialist made Metal Gear Solid game.... hence Link in Soul Calibur from Namco, hence the Gamecube made Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. The name sells consoles and the game will fit in perfectly with the Gamecube line-up.

It is all to do with Nintendo working with the biggest Japanese companies in the world. Konami and Metal Gear Solid, Namco and Starfox Armarda (and SC2), SEGA with F Zero GC and AC, Squaresoft with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Capcom with Zelda (and various deals involving the Capcom 5). This is all to do with Nintendo's massive push in Japan and it will mean next year will be massive for Nintendo in Japan. There is a few first party masterpieces in Japan (Metroid Prime to be released, Mario Kart, Pikmin 2, Mario 128, Mario Tennis, Golf and Animal Crossing 2) but its the other companies you need to look out for. Namco's support isn't as big as it is for the PS2 but it's bigger than it ever was, we of course have 4 legendary Capcom games and a few Resi Evil ports (oh and a megaman game or two) and SEGA are always cropping up with surprises... expect some nice new announcements from them at E3 for this year.

But what of the west? We won't get all the JAP releases and the western games we get are nine times out of ten ports... But Miyamoto said one thing.

"We have been discussing with EA concepts surrounding connectivity"

EA actually making a game with Gamecube concepts in mind?

Discuss.

Yep, bring in the punters as it were.

Although with this possibility of SEGA being brought out it could mean one less game develeping company Nintendo won't have use of.

What the hell do you mean by connectivity? The internet? And knowing EA I wouldn't be suprised if the produce a GC exclusive, oh and I use the term exclusive, we all know what ES are like.

EA's idea of connectivity would be forcing people to download the latest version of Fifa (now with more realistic beards) every four days for £40.

I assume that he means both connectivity to the net as well as connectivity to the Game Boy Advance, which hasn't been widely used as of yet, but is beginning to pick up in titles moreso than it did when the Game Cube was first released, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle being the only connectable game.

I don't want the Final Fantasy series to come to the GameCube.
I don't want Metal Gear Solid on the 'Cube either.
I've never played any of the games from these series', and I've never wanted to. What good are they going to be to me - and perhaps many others - who are more-than-happy with the likes of Mario, Zelda, and everything else Nintendo has to offer?!

And I'd hate for us to lose SEGA. They may not have given us too much right now, even with F-Zero and Skies of Arcadia on the way. But after experiencing some of their "greats" on the MegaDrive and Dremcast, I just know that within time, they could REALLY deliver.
But I also do not believe that they became a third-party developer just to be bought-out by Microsoft or EA.

And anything to do with EA is bad.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, FIFA 2003, and the 2 LBA games are the best things they have published, and ever will. And Medal of Honor: Frontline's pretty good, but I don't reckon it's THAT special.
So they can keep they're money-grabbing hands-off Mario and Zelda - if that's what they're thinking of!! :P

Although, I bet that Nintendo are just looking for some help with advertising, or something...

Are you people unaware that the Harry Potter Gamecube & GBA games do actually link up to provide unique content and guess what? This is a game published by Electronic Arts. I would like to see Nintendo themselves use the link-up feature more.

I can see where you are coming from but as a multiple console owner I am very glad that the GameCube is getting an exclusive MGS. I have an Xbox and I will be picking up Metal Gear Solid Substance within the next 2 weeks and therefore a re-make of the first MGS would be superb. I am a big fan of the series and a Resident Evil style re-make of the first Metal Gear would be enough to boost sales within the UK and make a difference to the GameCube. I am not a fan of the Final Fantasy series so I am not interested in Chronicles or any other FF game they decide to release on the GameCube. However if looking at it sensibly then a FF game would do a lot to boost GC sales and therefore I welcome any efforst to bring a FF game to the GameCube.

Lets face it - Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo 'Cube exclusive titles will sell the console by the millions over here in the west - think of the tonnes of FF fans, how fast MGS sold, and the critical acclaim GT3 has on the Playstation 2. By pushing with major companies in Japan, the knock on effect seems to be some console selling titles imminent in the west.
