And then...it happened...little did anyone know that this would change the constitution of life as we know it...
It took a bold, brave person to defy the laws of coolness when he hooked up to the bulky-fridge like contraption known only as "that tennis sorta game".
It was pong, and the audience loved it.
This sudden, overnight sensation was the new word on the block; people loved it for it's simplicity, inginuity, and for the simple fact that it had never been done before. You would get a whole flock of people staying inside the pubs and clubs to have "just one more go".
Knowing that they were on to something, the makers of the then, modern-day computers decided to try again...and succeeded. It was called Space Invaders, and that was also welcomed by the masses. Computer games had suddenly became a proper word with the world, and this had laid the foundations for the future success we see today.
After a while, after the cheap imatations, a card company known as Nintendo decided to dabble in the black arts of computers.
They created the Nes, or Famicom in the 80's, and brought with it the home-entertainment, which had the respect by its peers to be called by such a name. If Pong and Space Invaders laid the foundations, then Nintendo brought with them the bricks and cement, and a couple of builders. The Spectrum, Sinclair and co did try, but none captured the eye as much.
Everyone grew familiar with the likes of Donkey Kong, Zelda, and Mario, the latter of whom, enchanted everyone with the type of games that even todays best developers only wish they could do.
Time passed, classics arose, crazes died, so Nintendo tried a different route. They thought if gaming could be so popular at home, why not on the move? In turn, they created the Gameboy, (y'know, that thing what everbody aspires to today), and brought a russian masterpiece with it called Tetris. Suddenly, nintendo was the place to be, it had the bright ideas, the cool games, and the genuine love and desire for games what made the games great. They were on a roll, whilst showing no signs of letting up. The new company, Sega, brought the master system which ran the Nes close, but wasn't any match for it in the long run.Years passed, and suddenly, the Nes wasn't as revolutionary as it started, people wanted better, and soon got it. Sega tried again, ths time succeding with the Mega Drive, a revolutionary, 16-bit console. It was met with great applause for the games' graphics and gameplay, the also brought Sonic with them. It was fast and addictive, like the feeling you got when you were young, trying to swipe your mums chocolates without her seeing. Nintendo were down but definety not out.
They made the Super Nes(or Super Famicom), which blew everyone away, especially with its launch title, Super Mario World. It was, and still is, described by most as the best game ever. It has great graphics, great sound, great gameplay, and, did I mention the graphics? They were like nothing seen before, even eclipsing Sonic, which is testament in itself. This brought with it the inevitable tag of being a `geek` if you liked computers. The war between the companys waged for ages, with neither letting up by bringing classic after classic out. After a very long while, Sony created a console masterpiece with the Playstation. It was the first, fully 3d console which you could play in the comfort of your own home. It was a battle with them and Sega's new Saturn, but in the end there would only be one winner. Sega and Sony brought Tomb Raider and Resident evil, but Sony then had the upper hand with the likes of Soul Blade, Crash Bandicoot, Wipeout And Final Fantasy, the newest entry to the best game ever debate. Sony had made playing computers cool again, and would soon win the war with Nintendos N64, which although it had classics like Mario64 and Zelda, it simply couldn't keep up with the PSX; this was mainly because Nintendo didn't bring enough games out, and they were too expensive.
Sony ruled for years, whilst creating a triumph in engineering known as the Playstation 2. Then suddenly, Microsoft put their name in the hat with the X-box, as did Nintendo with the Gamecube. This would change the face of gaming as we new it. All three have only been out for a couple of months, but we have already seen the kind of mind-blowing graphics which wouldn't even have been that good in your dreams. That console war is just starting...and it's getting good. Hopefully, the winner will once again be the gameplayer, otherwise known as you, the person who is reading this, and that is a very attractive prospect indeed.
Stay healthy, and thanks for reading my views on the subject

Sadly, not of the top of my head mate. Nice win though.
