As far as the original post is concerned, 'backup' = 'pirate copy'.

Licenses for console games are not like PC software, and under UK law (according to an interview months ago in a PS2 magazine) you are *not* entitled to have a 'backup' copy of console games, whether you make it yourself, buy it, own the original game or not. End of story, post reported.

that was the point i was making. i know full well if you haven't got the game then it's illegal but the point i was making on my understanding of this guy that he is supplying games on the understanding you've got the original. obviously a front but the cops can't touch him for it. that was my point may not have made it right but was what i meant

Yes, if you have the original game then it is legal, obviously. However, if you DON'T have the original game (which you probably don't) then it is highly illegal.

can i just ask with no one jumping over me or calling me stupid for no good reason EXACTLY what he means. if he means selling the products under the intent that you have the original copy or does he mean just selling them the game and just conveniently saying it's back-up. in my understanding from what i heard the former is just about legal but the latter is totally illegal

hmmm... backups are legal if you own the original game... but this guy has been selling copied CDs and Videos, and clearly is selling backups just as copied games for people with chipped consoles....
