NEW YEAR'S EVE!!!
Is it just me? Am I the only one to not really care?
I don't mean in a "Bah humbug" way, just in a "so what?" way.

11:59..."Excellent! 60 seconds to go!"
12:00..."Hurrah! Happy New Year!"
12:01..."So, anything actually changed?"
12:02..."Not at all. Except I am drunk."

Last new year's eve sucked big time.
My girlfriend's dad died on Dec 13th and she went back to New Zealand (this is not a "please feel sorry for me" post), and I went with my boys to a pub.
They did their duo thing and it was ok, and at 11:30pm I left to drive home so I could be there at midnight when she was phoning. (New Zealand is 13hrs ahead of us).
This new year we shall get a bottle of wine and go sit down on the banks of the Thames and sit quietly and think of absent people, the future and all the usual stuff.

But there's this "You're not going to a party? You sad fool!".
New Year is one of the busiest times for The Samaritans, the whole festive period is really, because everyone is so intent on showing how much fun they're all having that those that don't feel like it are made to feel like freaks.

Sure, the calander changes to the next year, but nothing actually changes. The same old problems will still be there the next morning, the same hopes/dreams/fears/ambitions but people seem to expect some elixir to wash away all strife.
Doesn't happen folks.
And I don't get why people can be happy and smiling with strangers for one evening of the year, and then go right back to being selfish little me-monkeys for the rest of the year.
If you can manage that, to be happy and relaxed for new year's eve, then keep it up for the entire year.
It's not that hard.
Either be happy and full of joy for 365 days of the year, or not at all.

Remember, a conscience isn't just for Christmas, it's for life.

Remind me, what did the millenium celebrate?

Certainly not 2000 years since Jesus:
1) Jesus wasn't born on Dec 25th- the Roman Catholic Church moved it to this date.

2) As many of you will be aware, we use the Gregorian calender, and when this was forst implimented, the Pope changed the date to compensate for lost/gained days since the birst of Christ. HOWEVER, this was taken as being 300 AD, because before this, Christianity wasn't a real religion.

3) Jesus was most likely born in about BC7 - BC3

Is it New Years Eve today... that being the 30th... or is it the 31st... shows how much I give a damn.

New Year I spent it in my house... my family and their friends and next door neighbours... they're okay but as usual I'm on my own... nothing to do... don't drink as there is no point... go to bed at one...

New Years Eve sucks... although least this year I'm seeing some mates

New year's eve sucks? Well, what about the rest of life? (No really.. I'm being serious in a manically suisidal way)...

What is the point... I'll probably grow up, become a computer programmer and maybe get rich... SO???!? The best days of my life have been spent (usually drunk) with my closest friends...

College is a waste of my time... all we do is shout abuse at the teachers (and yet we'll all get A grades anyway being the mathematically talented gits we are)...

And outside of college I'm either asleep, drunk or bored.
