Hopefully this is all a big joke... but I can't look at that picture and not see an X-Box and Cube...

If Yamauchi has the opportunity to buy enough of Rare to get them Cube exclusive and doesn't... i'll shoot the * myself!

Anyway... make what you will of that - but my experience tells me it's all a joke.

Comments...

And not laughing, PS2 owners... us Ninties are VERY sensitive!

Game: Wants PD2 on PS2 so everyone can see how much better it is than MGS2! :D

Am I the only one to see the contradiction there?

"underlining the fact that most of his previous projects - including DMC and Resident Evil: Code Veronica were opposed by his bosses."

So, he's got these two projects he's working on for the PS2, and his bosses say "no" but he does it anyway.

"So, what does this all mean? Well, according to EDGE, Mikami-San claims he was forced to develop games for PS2 even though he dislikes the hardware himself."

And here his bosses are forcing him to work on the machine even though he doesn't want to?

Someone somewhere is obviously telling porkies.

Additionally, when questioned on the RE decision by a PS2 mag, a Capcom spokesperson was very quick to deny that Capcom were abandoning the PS2, and stressing that the RE deal was only "exclusive" for 4 games, indicating that if RE doesn't see daylight on PS2 again, that it may well return on a future Sony platform.

PS2 may or may not be the dominant platform in the longer term, but industry analysts seem to think it will be. And with over 20 million sold so far, and an 80%-plus increase in sales in the last month, few major developers can afford to ignore it, even if they do go multi-platform.

The likes of Capcom and Sonic team seem to be favouring the Gamecube above other systems.

(remove space after ".com")

Capcom seem to be completely sick of the awkward PS2 hardware and don't seem to care too much for the Xbox.

THAT is what Nintendo want.

They want to grab Sony's Resident Evil fans, not give Sony some Goldeneye/Perfect Dark fans.

What on earth are you on about!! :-D

Nintendo are increasing their audience by GAINING devellopers, not GIVING them to other consoles.

Nintendo:

"Hey Sony! Remember that Perfect Dark 2 game that so many games fans are getting a Gamecube for? Well you can have it too! (tee hee hee! More people will buy the Gamecube now...)"

WTF?!?!?!? :-D

I agree pretty much with Snuggly - it was okay and good for the industry when 'exclusives' from other systems began to be ported for the 'cube, but now it may be going the other way, they don't find it so amusing.

It's common sense if you ask me - if Rare games are as totally amazing as Ninties seem to think, then everyone will love them, and it's a good way to make more money to pay more staff to make bigger and better games.

Nintendo appear to have realised, with the signing of some major adult-themed titles for Gamecube, that they need to increase their target audience if they are to compete for sales in the next-gen arena. Rare going multi-format would be a logical extension of that policy.

And please *don't* dig up the Gameboy sales figures 'argument' - that is a completely different market.

It was a picture of an Xmas card. What presents would you expect a developer to put under a tree, but consoles?

If Rare started porting their games to other consoles I wouldn't be bothered, but I can't see it happening, as Nintendo own over half of Rare. If that was to happen nintendo might as well go make games for multiformats too.

And if that happened then all consoles would pretty much play the same games, which would be odd, they'd be similar to video's or DVD players. You could buy whichever one looked nicest, as they'd all play the same stuff.

Why should Rare making games for other platformers bother you so much? Typical Nintendo fans, hanging onto what they have, not letting anyone else play with their toys. As long as they continue making games for Nintendo consoles, you have nothing to worry about.

And I'm pretty sure it's not a joke.

Rare are only messing about... if you actually stand back and look at their circum stances, you can tell they're joking.

I mean 250 workers, making games for X-Box, and PS2 as well as the Cube and GBA - LOL!
