My twelfth is in phantom and spectre and haste
My whole stalks the night in a quiet dreamlike state
With no memories the next day of being out late

Its what attached the running rope to the piton (the spike that is driven into the wall)

YEP!

Thats it. The safety gate on the carabiner thing opens, the rope supporting him falls through, and he gets splatted.
