My first is in biscuit but never in cake
My second's in awesome but not in great
My third is in mother but not seen in dad
My fourth is in sunny but never in sad
My fifth is a vowel found in water not creek
My sixth is found only in one day of the week
My seventh's two of three that you learn when you're young
My eighth's not in song but it's there when it's sung
My ninth's in eleven and twelve, not thirteen
My tenth is in island and river, not stream
My eleventh's in precious and secret and paste
My twelfth is in phantom and spectre and haste
My whole stalks the night in a quiet dreamlike state
With no memories the next day of being out late

Ros wins again! keep up all!

want more?

You have 1000 sheets of paper in a large pile. Each sheet has a number on it that indicates its position from the top of the stack (1 to 1000). Starting with the top sheet, remove every alternate sheet until you reach the bottom of the pile and then throw away the sheets you removed. Repeat the process with the remaining sheets and eventually the stack is reduced to just one sheet, but what is the number on the last remaining sheet of paper?

Mine hurts as well. When I read it the second time I read it as removing alternative sheets only. Therefore the top sheet (1) never gets removed.

Well, I make it 1. As long as the one on top is 1...

If you take the alternate one, and you always start on 1, then, well, wouldn't that mean that just got left there every time?
