Good point. I've lost the plot.

You're adding it wrongly.
Originally, they paid £30, they each received back £1.
Now they have only paid £27.
Of this £27, £25 went to the manager for the room and £2 went to the bellboy.

it's been swallowed up by your dodgy dodgy maths

Heh, very good, you're getting there.

But in that case the lion could eat the sheep because he knows the next lion will not eat the sheep, because of your logic above ;)
3 men go into a hotel. The hotel only has 1 room with 3 beds available at a cost of £30, which they pay £10 each.
After the men have gone to the room, the receptionist realises that the room was only £25, and had overcharged the men. She sends the bellboy up with five pound coins.
The bellboy thinks that because £5 doesn't split into 3 easily, he pockets £2 and gives the men £3.
This means that the men paid £9 each, totalling £27, and the bellboy has £2, totalling £29.
Where is the missing pound?

In which case you beat Ros to it!
That was damn fast!

Nope, sorry. Worked it out logically.
