Bit of a serious topic to all those out there who cheat. Not on games but in here on these forums. Lately there has been a lot of people being accused of cheating or found guilty of cheating and not only does it break the rules of the forum it is also breaking the law. The ones who do it know who they are and soon so will the staff. The majority of the users are fine and obey the rules but there are a few exceptions who should take note.

The rules of special reserve state:"In submitting written material you agree to indemnify Inter-Mediates Ltd, Freeolaand Special Reserve against all liabilities arising from infringement of copyright orintellectual property rights. Basically, in plain English - this means that the materialmust be original and written by you. Please do not send other people's work. If you
do, you run the risk of being banned from our site."

But that is just the rules of SR. Now my knowledge of law and all that is fairly basic but I do know that stealing other peoples work, plagiarism is wrong and if you use a small piece of someone else work in your post then you should say, and state where it came from. If the original author of the review/post etc finds your copy they may wish to take legal action against you (Remember special reserve do have your name/address etc)

I know SR ban people who cheat (usually after a warning), Im not sure if they do but maybe a good idea would also be to prevent to person ever winning a GAD or FAD again. That way they have nothing to gain by cheating. When some people are banned they just sign up again which kind of defeats the purpose of banning them in some cases.

I'm not going to go on about it anymore. Those who do it have been warned and the chances are you will get caught. If anyone wants to post more exact details about the various laws concerning plagiarism and copyright then I would be happy to read them. In short if you cheat then you deserve to pay the price.

Allegedly I have copied some reviews from an american website. In reality I didnt copy anything even though the reviews did appear under my name. As I said in the other topics, it wasnt me but I havnt got a clue who it was. Some people dont believe me and I am sorry that you think I am a cheater when I am not...

Fantasymeister was the first to completely support immediete banning if someone is caught copying something... that was a LONG time ago, and it still stands. You will get caught, and you should be banned.

Meka also said something earlier about keeping it quiet and informing the staff, but surely public humiliation, and certainly the loss of respect of just about everyone on the forum weights more than simply having to go and change your username? Crime and punishment, and all that.

I'm only writing because I'm bored.

Dont know if that whas what you meant but dont they email your Internet provider or something and then ban your IP address. Then unless you got two different connections, surely the person cant get back onto the forums

But the address the prize goes to would be the same and then SR wouldn't send them the prize.

Maybe they could have a rule where if you are awarded a GAD and later they find that the winning post was copied they could send come round to your house and rough you up a little. : )

This is serious and probably dosn't bother the staff as much as it bothers us users as we are all competing in a way and to see someone try to cheat to win can be annoying to say the least.
Anyone else got any other ideas of tackling the problem?

One other idea if it is possible could be to ban the ISPN number of the person you want banned from gaining access to ukchatforums. Not sure if it is possible but surely there must be more efficient ways of banning people?

Yeah, but if the same address was given in the sign-up process they'd be blocked from winning.

Of course a fake address could be used, but then any prizes couldn't be sent to them!

They'd have to use someone else's address which is always both hassle and a major deterant. Just not worth the effort.
