Well, if ya dont...I'm talking about Thierry Henry, and his reaction after the game against Newcastle today.
The guy is great fooballer, even as a Man Utd Supporter myself I can't help but be amazed by his dazzling displays. His blistering pace and eye for goal are always a good reason to watch Arsenal play.
Taking allthings into account, Arsenal were hard by tonight. MR. Poll made a few errors of judgement today, and it really lost the match for the Arsenal. But the guy is only only Human, we moan every year about bad refs but nowadays its a normal part of the game! It doesnt help with the FA/FIFA/UEFA or whoever changing the rules every year.
But anyway, back to the point...Henry acted stupidly after the game, and action should be taken against him. I know he was upset, but this isnt the first time he has reacted like this. In the Champions league this year he felt the need to do the same sort of thing. The F.A should take the fact Henry had good reasons to be upset into account but he should be punished. Who knows what Henry would have done if it wasnt for Shearer restraining him. Actually, Shearer should be acknoledged for his model behavior today. Particulary when Parlour was sent off, the guy showed how football should be played. Unlike Henry, who waved an Imaginery Card at the ref when he was fouled.
Well, anyway..this was pritty unbiased for me. So now i'll go mad! yeah! What a result! You stupid gunners! Flippin Henry, thinkin he's all big and bad! hope they lock you up and throw away the key! flippin nutter.
Newcastle top of the league? Funny season eh?
> As none of us have played top level professional football we cannot understand fully what kind of pressures the players are under.
I don't think you need to have played to level football to appreciate that frustration can get the better of humans from time to time. I used to play Sunday league football and was sent off for abusing a referee. One of our players was clean through on goal only to be brought down inside the penalty area. It was a wet day and you could see from the marks on the pitch that contact was made well inside the area. The referee (to the amazement of everyone - including the opposition) awarded a FREE KICK outside the penalty area. I told the referee exactly what I thought and was sent off. Unbelievably the referee then changed his mind and awarded a penalty afterall. I approached the refereee after the game and asked why he had sent me off when for complaining about a decision even he admitted was incorrect. In typical refeering style he refused to even answer the question.
So there you have it. Even when there is nothing at stake it is human nature to react when you are on the receiving end of an injustice. The frustration is many times worse for professional footballers and managers who have much more at stake.
For clubs that are changing for the title like Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal (should I include Utd?) the pressure from Shareholders, Managers and fans is so great as the have to achieve the ambitions of the club and if they don't they coyuld be sold.
When Bobby Robson, said he has got used to losing. That is quite true for a Magpie fan and team as they have lost so much before, a team gets used to it.
But if Bobby Robson should of lost, those words would not of entered his minf and exited his mouth.
And I didn't see the match, and my thoughts on referees are mixed. I loved them after the UEFA Cup Semi-Final I think it was, between Roma and Liverpool (I think,) where he gave a penalty to Roma and then changed it for a corner. :D
Maybe I can see a repeat of the Arsenal match tonight...
I agree that refs a big disgraces at times, and David Elleray has been on several occasions for me, as a Man United fan. From what you've said it seems Shearer is a good role-model, even if he is called 'Mr. Boring', and Henry was a disgrace. But you can't really blame him I suppsose. They were 1-0 up, and went 3-1 down, he was certain it wasn't a fowl, and he new Arsenal needed the points as they could have gone top!!
But they didn't and Newcastle took that opportunity well. At leasthe didn't shove the ref over like Di Canio did (even though that ref made a 'mountain out of a moe hill'), he could have ended up with a massie suspension!!! He may still get suspended. But i'll have clearer views and opinions on this, when i've seen the highlights.
Graham Poll seems to love the attention he receives. He is often on the back pages for dishing out too many red cards and he no doubt keeps a scrap book of all the press clippings. The two challenges by Parlour in no way merited yellow cards (and ultimately red) - and prior to that Arsenal were cruising.
It is understandable that players and managers get wound up by these decisions. Especially managers - who have their jobs and reputations on the line.
Still though, something needs to be done about the refs, dont they go 'training' every week? Its not working. There have been something like 50 red cards this season, which is a very lot to say that there was 64 in the whole of the last.
Newcastle didnt have a chance in the game. Arsenal were simply irresistible, before the sending off.
Shearer said this later.
"I don't want to criticise because it is an impossible job - but who can we blame?
"It seems a lot of games are being spoilt."
So, is time the FA serouisly consider using our technology to help the ref on the pitch? This is all been said before, but this is a real wake up call. Somthin should be done.
