Life without games,
is it something that we can even begin to comprehend? I've been inspired to write after returning to the SR Forums (most notably the FOG and Microsoft/Windows forums) and reading about the problems encountered with gaming, and the critiscism's made of various aspects of the industry (including developers, specific games, hardware companies, etc).
As already mentioned in a previous post of mine (A True Unfounded Arguement) there are still a tremendous amount of people who refuse to accept gaming as a form of entertainment not unlike TV. However, as lifelong (many of us) games players we would most certainly describe gaming as a form of entertainment, and for me, one of my primary ways of relaxing and spending my spare time. Gaming is afterall, an entertainment form enjoyed by millions!
However, what would life be like without any form of console gaming? In the same way as life without TV would be COMPLETELY different, a life without gaming would undoubtedly have made us all very different people.
As much as we may despise certain games companies for their lax attitude to developing and an attitude of "income over quality", there is still much to enjoy about the gaming industry. Everyday many of us complain about someone or something connected with the industry, and in truth we have a right to be angry when charged £300 for a console that doesn't meet the expectations, just as a game for £40 that doesn't provide lasting entertainment deserves slating.
I know myself i'm constantly complaining to friends about poor value for money and the way games should be 'better' in certain area's, but on the reverse side of that arguement, where would we be without gaming? We benefit so greatly from this 'hobby', that our lives would be unbeleiveably different. Gaming is certainly one of the best ways of releiving stress, and is invaluable as a means of escaping from the problems of everyday life.
I feel maybe i've been a little over-critical, and maybe it's time to accept that even though things may not be perfect, we're still enjoying technology the likes of which would have been Alien 50 years ago. We're still unbeleiveably lucky, and able to enjoy this fantastic hobby.
I know it's been said before that as games-players we are sometimes over-critical and expect too much, but in this instance look at it in a different light.
Imagine our lives without gaming. It's something that I know I find hard to do, and in future i'll be a little less rash complaining about the gaming industry.
What a MASSIVE impact gaming has on us. We really are the 'lucky' ones to be involved in such a rewarding hobby.

Ooops!!, forgot to put meet time in main listing. We are planning on meeting at Car Park in Patterdale between 8.30 and 9.00am, with the aim of Setting off at 9am, I estimate this will probably be approx a 4 - 5hr ride.
I believe we agreed a time of 8.45am in the car park. See you there, Brian.
Further to previous postings this ride is happening on Sunday 31st July, weather conditions look quite favourable, this is a hard ride, approx 20miles with over 4000ft of climbing / Pushing.

Directions from Preston
M6 to Junction 36
Then follow A590 / A591 to windermere
In Windermere at roundabout turn right onto A592 (Kirkstone pass)
Follow this all the way to Patterdale
