But hey, it's time to move on... and within the next 6 months, all the Next-Generation consoles will be 'out' in the UK... but for Sega fans, and their depleting Dreamcast, there will be no new Next-Gen Sega console, Sonic has moved on, the Jet Set crew have flown the Dreamcast nest... the The Virtua Fighters have broken all ties with the Dreamcast and that ginger Ref from Virtua Striker has ripped up his contract....
So where to Sega fans turn? Most people think that the X-Box is the best option, but i'm not so sure... If you want Sonic you'll have to go to Nintendo GameCube... whether Sonic's target market had anything to do with Nintendo getting Sonic or not, it doesn't matter... if you want to play Sonic games in the future, you'll have to get a Gamecube! But hold on a minute... only Sonic 2 is being ported onto the Gamecube... who's to say that Sega won't release Sonic Adventure 3 across all platforms... if Gamecube can take a sonic game, X-Box sure as hell can, and I doubt the PS2 would have many problems if any...
Face it... there's no guarantee that Sonic's future lies under a Nintendo name... you can scream "Gamecube, Gamecube" all you want, but it won't help... and don't you PS2 lot snigger either... just because you're getting Virtua Fighter 4... that isn't even Sonic Team... at least Gamecube has 5 titles (SMB, CT, SA2, PSO2, VS3).... to your 2-3 or whatever... Plus.... Virtua Fighter 4 has Tekken 4 and Soul Calibur 2 to compete with... that won't be over in a hurry... it'll be bloody and brutal... and if the truth be told, I fancy Soul Calibur 2's chances... I mean... look at Ivy and tell me that isn't a bad-įss sword!!
Well anyway, as we know, the X-Box won't be left out... in fact, one of the DC's more unique franchises, Jet Set Radio, will see it's way to X-Box, much to the glee of The X-Box team.. and fans of MSR will no-doubt have seen Project Gotham and heard about Sega's latest episodic masterpiece that is Shenmue, although a Sega rep did say that the title might be more fitting for Gamecube!
So where do Sega fans go? The road is split into a three-pronged fork, and each way looks equally attractive... The Gamecube has more support with a total of about 5 titles, but only Sonic is a massive title, the others just aren't in the same league... PlayStation 2 will have Virtua Fighter 4, another 'big' franchise and the thrid major franchise, Shenmue, starts off on X-Box...
I don't want to suggest a console... within 6 months anything can happen, and you could be stuck with a console that doesn't give you what you want... and even the GameCube at a mere £200 is expensive if you don't want or use it!
Your best bet, Sega fans, is to see what else appeals to you... the 'higher quality' 'kiddie' games on the Gamecube might offer some of the magic that you saw in Sonic over the years, where as the more mature gamers amongst you would probably be better with X-Box because of the target market, if you want a blend of the two, you might be better off with the PS2, but with no more than 3 Sega franchises locked down to the platform, it might not offer enough Sega-esque gaming to satisfy you...
At the end of the day, Sega fans everywhere will be in a bit of a muddle... people will fly in from all directions with recommendations and suggestions, but the best thing to do, in my opinion, would be to hold fast, take a step back and see how things turn out... you'll be glad you waited that bit longer when you realise you have the right console!
Happy Gaming...
Game: Has Aching Fingers!
Any TRUE Sega fan would just buy all the systems Sega (depts.) would release games on - but you'd have to be quite 'well off' to do that ofcourse.
Personally Im just going to get the console which has the best games line up over the next two years. After that I'd prolly buy one of the other consoles.
Just wait and see.
Because I am sick of saying this again, and again, I have copied this from what I wrote in another topic (ignore the things not relevant to this topic):
"You seem to have missed the whole point! EVERY Sega department became independant at the same time!!! They DID NOT "break away"... Sega owned them after all! What atually happened is that Sega knew that the DC was failing. The only way for the company to survive was to go third party.
So, SEGA made all its 10 divisions independant- they're all still owned by Sega 100%, but can chose what games to make on what platforms.
Hence some of the divisions (like Sonic Team) are working on the GC saying it has te best architecture blaf blah blah.
Other divisions (like Smilebit) are working on the Xbox (jet set future), saying it has the most power, blah blah blah.
The larger divisions (like AM2) are working on many formats (shenmue and virtual fighter for example), because they have so many resources they can! (AM2 is bigger than most developers!).
So I don't know why everyone is saying that Sonic Team going to the GC is such a big thing! After all, the other nine Sega divisions are doing different stuff!"
Sonic
So when SEGA said: Our
> main concentration is with Nintendo they didn't mean it?
SEGA DIDN'T!
after all, Sega is made of 10 separate divisions, each independant, and each following their own platform focus... so ho could this entity called "SEGA" have said this?
I think you mean "Yugi Naka" (head of sonic team) said the GC was their focus. After all, AM2 have said the PS2 is their focus, and other divisions have gone in other directions.

Errr... it's not really the "best one". It makes far less games than most other Sega teams, and, great as they are they're not huge in number.
Thus you can't say that the GC is the new home for Sega gamers (which is the whole point of this topic!), as many of Sega's other games are going elsewhere!
Sonic
Seg ais made of 10 divisions... sonic team is just one of these, and not a big one at that.
As far as I know, it's the only division comitted to the GC 100%, and the rest are either going for another platform, or mixture of platforms...

If it turns out that most of SEGA's games (especially Crazy Taxi Next, Jet Set Radio Future & Shenmue) are coming out on the GameCube - I will definately buy a GameCube. No doubt about it at all. GameCube is my first choice, not the PS2, not the Xbox.
I wish SEGA had signed exclusively with Nintendo and released all their future titles on the GameCube. That would be perfection. Nintendo and SEGA hand in hand. The dream ticket.
Monkey Ball, PSOv2, Sonic, VS3, Sonic Adventure 2, Skies of Arcadia, Crazy Taxi 1 and 2 etc...
Rumoured:
NiGHTS, Shenmue 2 (SEGA basically said it's Going to be on all consoles although x-box will get it first).
But you see SEGA say their console of choice is Nintendo and i belive them.
Space Channel Five, Virtual Fighter and Jet Set Radio future im still hopeful for.

And seeing that new versions of Jet Set radio (Future) and Crazy Taxi

Shenmue will appear on more than x-box says official including Shemue 2 which is odd but there up to something so it doesnt matter. All SEGA sports titles are on Gamecube, All sonics and all Phantasy Stars are on Gamecube everything from sonic team are on Gamecube including maybe nights. Crazy Taxi is on all systems. Jet set radio i dunno but we'll see.
Dringo.
