Would the PS2 need to be connected to a surround sound decoder, or could you hook up pc surround sound speakers to get full surround sound?

That's because any speakers with a digital input has a built in Dolby Decoder.

The answer is yes, the PS2 must be connected to an amplifier with Dolby Digital decoding. Whether it is a stand alone amp or a built in amp makes no difference.

Creative Labs DTT2200. I know they work for PC but dont know if they have the optical cable connection. Most shops like SR and PC world would sell these aswell as other different speakers. These are may be about £80-100. Could go for Creative Labs DTT3500, SR sell them for £120.

the creative labs ones are actually £199.99, there was a mistake in the catalogue, the VAT free price was a dead giveaway.

There are cheaper ones. I have seen them for about £100 in PC world. SR sell the DTT2200 with a 5.1 PC sound card for £150.

If the price of the DTT3500 was actually £120 they would have been great.
